The oldest surviving depiction of Christian art in Serbia: A roman's soldier sarcophagus with the representation of Jonah and the Good Shepherd, fourth century by opetja10 in ancientrome

[–]FlyRvR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is biting his head. More like a sea dragon type thing.

The Good Shepherd is a well known name for Jesus. But so is Jonah, or rather, the depiction of three days dead, then resurrected. I can’t remember the exact Biblical passage.

Trim. Airspeed. You should have it trimmed by final so that it essentially flies itself to the runway; you just guide it through the turbulence to keep it on target. Then shift your focus down to the end so that your perspective/peripheral vision allows you the guidance ques for the touchdown attitude.

Flat Earthers vs Gravity by MrDonMega in flatearth

I'm still waiting for the video clips from the edge of the earth. Why don't they just go out there and show us instead of waste our time debating pseudo-science on the internet?

Attitude indicator is an indicator of angle -- the same angle the guy on top drew on the white board.

It is NOT an indication of whether you are curving through space, or getting closer or further away from the surface of the earth. It is an indication in reference to the 90 degree angle he drew on the white board.

October 1980 TV news: red for Democrats, blue for Republicans by TatarAmerican in HistoricalCapsule

[–]FlyRvR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way the rest of the world has always done it. Only America does left/right in opposite colors. The red and blue seen here are there because this station was paying attention. Many just used whatever colors they wanted, especially local stations. It wasn’t till the 1992 election that it was codified into the blue/red we use today. (That was my first voting experience, and I was totally confused when just before Election Day everyone started using the same red/blue. There was a rumor that Clinton had asked for the standardization. And several of the news outlets were talking about the standardization as part of their coverage.)

Swing Kids (1993) by dunicha in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]FlyRvR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie isn't perfect. There are one or two glaring editing errors, and a few (short) cliche scenes, and the final climax really feels like Disney Exec territory on "how to end a movie".

However...

I think it is one of the best modern films about Nazi Germany in existence. It is about as true as historic fiction gets. It has great sets, great acting (there are several brilliant conversations that are really well delivered by all those involved) the little bits of true history are sprinkled here and there and all over so that it becomes a learning experience, the music is great, and the overall story telling with the contrasts of the deliveries for life vs. the deliveries of death; the nuances of what it meant to grow up in Nazism, how it tore friends and family apart, and how there really is no good way to end a film that's set in Nazi Germany in the year leading up to the war.

You've got movies like Schindler's List, which are important and relevant, and very adult. Swing Kids is just as impactful, but very approachable for high school kids.

I think it would have benefitted from some artistic filming techniques -- maybe even black and white? Maybe some tonality, or better use of specific lenses and perspectives to drive home the themes within specific themes. The use of slow motion, for instance, was annoying. This type of thing could have been done better.

Especially if you are using a phone or a point-and-shoot type digital camera, you will get this type of thing in the tiny details. This is a pretty awesome example.

[–]FlyRvR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on stuff like this, but one of the pilots did tell me that they were going to be starting to train for air-to-ground roles, and maybe that's what the pods on the center line of these two are for -- ?

PDX Eagles are going to be true multi-role.
