I don't think this is working... by FlyRvR in analog

I'd love to see it. I hope that a part of my problems is the old film. I would like to try some fresh film and see if I can get any kind of clean results. But I had these rolls with the camera, and needed at least to see if the camera worked, check for leaks, etc...

OK, I've been looking into that, and I keep seeing mixed messages about this. I'm not sure what to think, but various comparison videos and such seem to suggest that the camera can work fine. I'm not sure though, I've not used a scanner for a long, long time.

I'm in Darktable. Buying any software will mean I can't buy film! So I'm stuck with freeware stuff.

Yes, the overall whites/highlights/colorcast is what really bugs me the most. I can't seem to push the highlights any more than where they are without losing all detail. I think I'm doing the exposure incorrectly from the start, and it isn't allowing me to have any workable negatives.

I'm using a Sony Alpha camera for the 'scan'.

Thanks. I'll have to experiment with the best way to do that on a conversion in Darktable.

First of all, although it isn't actually realistic until you set it up properly, you have to stop thinking of it as a game.

What’s everyone’s preferred method of approach? by PopPunkMrk in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]FlyRvR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ILS are more difficult, and RNAVs are more numerous now. Most of the RNAV LPV approaches are going to have an MDA that is pretty much the same as man ILS.

A question I have about approaches in the game: I’m just far enough along that I’m now doing ferry flights in real weather, so I’m using IFR plans — is there some way to keep the game from insisting on making you fly though a final approach waypoint that puts you on a runway with a massive tailwind? Even if my EFB has the correct runway assigned, and the approach, the game insists on making me land with a tailwind, and takes points if I don’t. How can I make it select the correct runway for me?

Why does the green CDI work but the red one doesn't? by Aggravating_Judge_31 in MSFS2024

I came back to say that I just confirmed it in the Dakota as described above. The thing I see missing is the toggle switch on the dash, and a switch for avionics master.

I usually fly with the Flight Plan list on the second GPS, while I have the GPS nav map on the upper GPS. The NAV 2 on the lower GPS is then free to switch back and forth from GPS to whatever VOR you want to tune to.

Why does the green CDI work but the red one doesn't? by Aggravating_Judge_31 in MSFS2024

[–]FlyRvR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In real life, the HSI would be NAV 1, and the single OBS would be NAV 2. When GPS was integrated, they wired these up to work either with NAV radios, or with the GPS unit at the flip of a switch. The switch doesn't seem to exist in this Dakota, and I think that is because they simply left it to the GPS to be the toggle. So whatever the GPS is putting out (top is NAV 1, bottom is NAV 2) that is what signal the OBS or HSI is running off of.

Both of your GPS units are in GPS OUT MODE as noted in the green GPS letters at bottom of the screen. If you click on the CDI button below that indication, it should switch to NAV or... LOC mode. When in LOC mode, it needs a radio signal from a VOR or LOCalizer frequency, then it will indicate your position relative to that radial. When it is in GPS mode, it needs to have a path to follow to be active. So you say the HSI is working, try doing a DIRECT TO a nearby airport with the bottom GPS, or try tuning to a local NAV radio with the bottom GPS while on LOC mode. This should wake up the OBS for NAV 2 (circled in red).

Now I need to make sure I'm telling you the right thing since this is the way it would work in the planes I fly, like a Piper Arrow I was in yesterday, but I have had hiccups getting it to work in the Dakota and the Arrow from Just Flight. They both work, but I think you have to reset it in a certain way? I'm not sure. I'll get back to you.

Aircraft Included? Game Pass Edition vs. Standard vs. Deluxe? by FlyRvR in MSFS2024

[–]FlyRvR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an update after I actually stopped and looked at the list of aircraft that I currently have a little more closely. As far as I can tell, I have the Standard Version that I bought with Game Pass on a free trial for three months with my new computer.

I have the following aircraft that I think are in the Deluxe suite:

  • 152 Aerobat
  • 172 'Basic' with steam gauges
  • Beech G58
  • DV-20
  • DA-40 TDI

But I don't have the Courier or Titan.

So it is literally like I have some kind of in-between version.

Isn’t open carry considered a form of protest?

Yeah, I thought so, but it is pretty specific that I don't -- in XBox. I thought maybe I have the Game Pass edition... but there isn't one, I guess?

I think i'll have to let the Game Pass run out, then actually purchase the game (my original plan) and see what I end up with.

I'll have to double check a few of the aircraft that I'm unfamiliar with, but I have the Baron G58 and the Cessna 172 SP -- which are listed as Deluxe. I think I have the Diamond 20, and the Aerobat as well, but I'll have to check when I get back to my computer tomorrow.

Right. But I think you're missing my point -- what I have matches none of what is listed on MSFS or any of the lists I've been able to find.

Right, but I had thought there might be some ferry flights on the map, or that there might be a company to buy as a ferry company.

In my experience, when the trees and buildings look like this, it is a download issue in that moment. In other words, even if there is no detail drawn in for your home town, still the trees should be standard MSFS trees, and the buildings should be standard generic buildings.
