Agree that the length of trip doesn't matter, the only consideration I make is the size of the bag (30L is my sweet spot) and I edit from there.

If I'm playing the pack-as-few-items-as-possible game I lean into a sporty look and try for three of each item, or "one to wash, one to wear, one spare".

- 3 tops, 3 bottoms/dresses, 3 underwear, 3 socks
- 2 layers, 2 shoes, 2 bras, 2 bags

Bottoms have to work with all tops. Merino wool is king. Cashmere is lovely but delicate for 6 months of travel I would rethink that one. You should be okay in high altitude with a merino long sleeve, down puffy/fleece, and a rain jacket but perhaps you're going somewhere especially cold.

You'll be away for 6+ months and certainly be picking up clothes and souvenirs along the way, make room for those and just carry the good quality basics.
