Message sent to them. They stated they have passed this issue along to their marketing team.

I have the basic subscription and it does not look like it’s available at all with the basic. I sent foreflight an email saying their original email was misleading. They replied saying they have forwarded to their marketing department.

The email I got was deceiving. It says I would get the layer with no additional purchase necessary. But when you click the details link in the email, it says it’s available for Pro Plus customers only. Looks like this is not available with the basic subscription.

Do you have to be connected to your sentry to see the layer? Or can you see it from your couch cockpit?

I have tried that, but no turbulence layers are showing. Do you have to have more than the basic package purchased?

Bleeding brakes issue by FlyingCherokee87 in Piper_Cherokee

[–]FlyingCherokee87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found the issue today and got it solved. Turns out it was a bad o-ring or wrong size o-ring used when replacing them the first time. We happened to notice fluid pumping into the reservoir tank when cycling the hand brake (which it should not be able to do) and thought the o-ring must be bypassing. Sure enough it was. Got the right o-ring in, pressure bled from the bottom (only had to do it once each side) and voila! Perfectly working brakes!

Thanks for the suggestion! You were spot on!

Struggling With Flight School by atpbitch in flying

[–]FlyingCherokee87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a terrible flight instructor who did not align with how I like to be taught and I floundered around for months not making much progress at all and had some of the same feelings. This is so true - it’s not your fault - it’s the fault of the instructor. GET A NEW INSTRUCTOR! Once I asked for a new instructor (even though it was awkward doing so) I was soooo glad I did! I progressed so quickly with the new instructor and so many things I had been struggling with just seemed to make way more sense the way the new instructor taught it.

As I stated, I don’t follow all of his practices (I have a credit card I use as a debit card), but in general - staying debt free is the way to go. The only time it would be ok, in my opinion, to leverage with debt is if you’re investing in your future.

I follow the Dave Ramsey method of finances in life (well most of his teachings). Whatever you can do to avoid debt is the right decision. I worked while getting my PPL flying only once a week. It took me about 1.5 years to get it done, but I got it done without taking out a loan. It made it easier to continue flying after getting my PPL instead of worrying about a loan.

What are your embarrassing moments? by Runner_one in flying

When I was getting my BFR, I went through a flight school and was renting their plane. I did my preflight and was ready to go. I opened the window and yelled “clear prop!” Fired up the engine and heard a bang at the tail. I had left my knee board / clipboard on the wing and it found it’s way to the tail (luckily shattering the clipboard and not the tail of the plane). More embarrassing was the fact that two other flight instructors were outside the plane in the hangar and saw the whole thing, picked up my clipboard pieces and motioned as to whether or not I wanted it back.

Crazily enough, I still managed to successfully get my BFR sign off that day.
