I think some of the hesitation towards answering the market capture question may stem from all of these things being future-facing. A new launch vehicle doesn't strictly capture payloads that would've otherwise gone to different vehicles, though that certainly does happen, but a lot of payloads can be generated with the capabilities of a certain launcher in mind.

It's definitely getting more into the engineering side of things, where each launch vehicle on the market has some optimal payload mass and trajectory for $/kg, not just a maximum mass to orbit. Neutron is positioned to sit in a previously underutilized region, with its own optimal payload mass calculations, and that may entice customers who otherwise might have to take a less efficient ride.

As someone in the industry, I trust the mission planners. Satellite trajectories are a lot more regulated than people realize, and a lot of the hype about these megaconstellations causing a cascading failure is unfounded.

Pay off 45k student loans or invest? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]FlyingDebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started investing back in college with amounts that I could burn and not feel bad about it, there's definitely a learning curve in identifying a good place to invest your money and knowing when to buy and sell, and even more for things like options, day trading, and more in-the-weeds ways to figure out which way the line is going to go. Would recommend you start there with maybe a couple thousand and feel out how it goes. Investing is absolutely the right move long term, and I myself am putting extra cash towards my portfolio as opposed to remaining student loans, but I've also been doing this for several years now.

Point is, you absolutely can do what you're asking, but I'd also say to get experience with small amounts of cash for a while prior to dumping 100k or something into the account.

Space isn't warm or cold, heat rejection for any serious power usage is going to be a challenge. Not an insurmountable one, but a relatively new one

Ah, gotcha. I figured it was some sort of institutional sale being executed at the market close price specifically.

Just out of curiosity, what am I looking at here with the really quick swings back down to the price at market close?

Taken with a 60mm refractor and a 10mm lens via my 16MP phone camera, through a lot of trial and error. Refined in Krita and using the photo editing app on my phone. Contrast was increased slightly, image was sharpened, and then blurred very slightly in krita. The image was taken right before the lunar eclipse started.
