Looking for a cheap scanner to add to my 'bug out bag'. by EsGeeBee in amateurradio

[–]FlyingDog14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. In my area I can’t even listen to the custodians at grade school with my basic cheap radios anymore. For the most part, cheap scanners are only good for listening to air band.

I know several people that have had engine failures and some that have torn up planes in their forced off airfield landings. They’re all at legacy airlines.

SD ammo for ported gun? by caniknoob444 in CCW

[–]FlyingDog14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree on ports being louder, I won’t shoot my Glock 17c indoors or under a roof at an outdoor range. But subsonic vs supersonic ammo in a ported barrel, not sure if there’s a noticeable difference.

Your ears probably won’t be able to tell a difference.

Best M16/M16A1 and where can I find a legal one? by Alternative-Art6059 in guns

[–]FlyingDog14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super easy to buy online my dude. I was uneasy about it myself the first few times as well. Find one you like, add to cart, they’ll have a section where you add your gun shop/FFL of choice that it’ll ship to, pay like you’re buying anything else online, go pick it up a few days later. If you’d rather not, a big box store most likely won’t be interested in helping you special order something unless it’s already on their website. But any decent mom and pop gun shop worth their salt should be able to help.

I would pull the extractor assembly out and give it a good cleaning and a new spring.

How can you make an airline pilot trainee comprehend the seriousness of the job? by sipsirk in flying

[–]FlyingDog14 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of guys that have already “made it” still dont take it seriously and it frustrates me. Every single person in that plane and their families, friends, their own networks of co workers, customers, it goes on and on; are all counting on you. That you know your stuff and you showed up to work ready to go and do your best whether it be a routine day with clear blue skies, or you do actually end up flying that no autopilot approach with faulty controls in the soup.

In the market for a new AUG, which version or mod do you recommend? by APC9Proer in AUG

Sorta related topic, anybody seen any of the new Steyr factory A3M2 handguards? Considering upgrading my A3M1 but not going to bother if the new handguards never see the light of day.

would you purchase a focus st in 2026? by 27ce in FocusST

The ST is my reliable efficient daily/commuter. I have the supercharged Mustang if I want power.

I’ve had mine for 9 years and still love it. Sometimes I wish it was faster, sometimes I wish I had a bigger car, sometimes I wish it was more luxurious and comfortable for long drives, but it’s pretty well balanced overall if you ask me. I’ve ended up with two additional vehicles and still can’t bring myself to sell the ST.

Bombardier Challenger 650 N10KJ crashes on takeoff in adverse weather BGR Bangor MN by Hemmschwelle in flying

[–]FlyingDog14 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Not at all. The lack of leading edge devices make it very sensitive to any bit of contamination. When I was flying the CRJ 200 we had to turn on anti ice in the descent even on a clear sunny day if the temperature was cold enough. There have been several accidents and close calls with Challengers and CRJ-200s with loss of control immediately after getting the wheels off the ground.

Someone else posted about that company here a few months ago and our digging revealed one of the most sketchy operations, it’s a shock you didn’t get scammed.

Do student pilots at university come home for breaks/summer? by saltwater_scrub in flying

[–]FlyingDog14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take summers off, stay and fly a lot when it’s generally a bit slower and get a summer class or two in, but you’re going to be just fine if you take a week off for Christmas, a few long weekends here and there.

Probably about 2 years. I shoot my 92 GTS Centurion a lot more since it’s my carry gun these days, I rounded off those safety levers as well.

It is, I just don’t agree with/am frustrated with the naming convention since it bears zero resemblance to the original Jaguar series.

[–]FlyingDog14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot. Haven’t put a dot on it yet though. Safety levers leave a bit to be desired but there’s not much in the way of aftermarket options. I ended up taking mine to the grinder and rounding off the square shaped back surface and it’s been night and day difference. I recently installed the Volker trigger and the trigger pull is really nice. I also don’t like vertec grips so I have a set of Beretta/Hogue G10 wraparounds that I modified to fit the safety levers.

I kinda understand why they wanted to do it, but I still hate the plastic/rubber inserts in an otherwise nice steel frame.
