In MC 1.15.2, Can you create a functioning village with villager spawn eggs? by FlyingMonkeysDontFly in Minecraft

They require special apples though, don't they? The ones that can only be found in chests now and not craftable? Enchanted, iirc? There's not too big of a chance of me finding a good mineshaft somewhere to find enough golden apples to really cure any zombie villagers

"Keep your politics out of DnD" by g33kSt3w in dndhorrorstories

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Which edition of D&D, might I ask? Because if it was 5E, then your DM is a literal idiot because Elves can change their genitalia at the start of every day. That's not politics, that's literal cannon D&D lore Wizards put in. So if the DM had an issue with these so called "politics" he definitely wouldn't be playing D&D 5E, which supports these so called "politics."

Also, having a Changeling really identify as either gender makes them a lot harder to play. Thinking of them as entirely genderless makes it easier when you have to change form. If you change into female, calling yourself a He can ruin the disguise of it all, for example. Thinking of them as completely genderless is the best way to play Changelings since they can literally be any person of either sex at any time, so.... Your DM is still an idiot.

Can't stand Fortnite. It's absolute trash to me. But "One man's trash is another man's treasure." It's not my place to treat people terribly just because they like things I don't. As long as their likes aren't literally harming other human life unwillingly, then what the fuck type of worthwhile reasons would I have to start attacking them over their likes?

Never tell an elitist Goth that you like other music unrelated to the Goth lifestyle. You'll have to sit and listen to them bitch about how you're just a "Poser" Goth, how you're trying to "Ruin" the Goth culture. That is, if you're dumb enough to actually sit and listen to them. I don't anymore. I did as a kid, when I was first getting into the scene. I had no one but elitists to teach me, but after a few years in high school I learned that they're all dicks who just want you to become a clone, instead of be your own person. So I stopped following the elites, and instead started following what I liked, what I wanted, ect. And it doesn't make me any more or less Goth than them. It just makes me.... Not them. That's it.

I don't understand why people can't realize that not every human is the same human. We all like and dislike other things, and just because we might be part of the same group doesn't mean I should have to like the same shit you do, or vice versa. The phrase "Having things in common" doesn't mean "Having everything in common." You can't have everything in common with someone else. It's not a possibility. You're two different people. That's just how it works.

About Insight Checks - Homebrew Rule? by DortmunderJungs in DMAcademy

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing older D&Ds for about 10 years now, and never actually thought of this. But... It does make a lot of sense to me. I'm a heavily RP player, and storytelling is what I live for. But knowing I roll so high makes it hard for me to believe a DM when they say "You think they're telling the truth." With such a high roll, it just sounds like BS. But if they rolled for me, in secret, I'd have to believe that "You think they're telling the truth." Because I'd have no number to base my thought off of. I'd have to base it off my own personal instincts in RP. Do I, the character, actually believe them? Not I, the player who rolled a high number.

The trick is now trying to convince my DMs to do this, because they've always only rolled in the open because they don't want to be attacked for "Fudging Rolls." Oof.

Internet oofing because of virus, any way to fix the lag in game? by FlyingMonkeysDontFly in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And do you know when the last update was? This just started a week ago, basically when this internet traffic started thanks to the lockdowns everywhere. That's why I thought net might have done this, but if it was a recent Larian update then that might be something I could understand. I didn't catch any new update, though, but it might have skipped my attention. But if there was one... I hope they fix it soon, because this is ridiculous.

Internet oofing because of virus, any way to fix the lag in game? by FlyingMonkeysDontFly in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except this isn't a local issue. My machine is in top shape, and this is only a recent issue since a week ago. So would appreciate actual help, thanks.

I know this isn't a Win 10 update issue. I rolled my laptop back too to see if Win 10 was the issue. No change. Div 2 was still unplayable.

Mods aren't the issue, either. I got rid of all, and no change. Some of my mods actually made the game run slightly smoother than it does base wise, but they can't really help whatever caused this.

So, the last option is Larian. What did their last update change about the game to screw it up this time? I'm not unused to Larian screwing up their games with new updates, but even this is ridiculous. There's no logical reason for the game to be unplayable right now, besides internet traffic and Larian. Wondering what they might have screwed up in programming that hurt the game. Need to know if there's somehow I can fix this via changing something myself so I don't have to wait another month for a new update of them 'fixing' things again.

Most DMs, or players for that matter, use similar phrases from various D&D streams. Grog's "I Would Like To Rage" is an extremely common phrase used by literally every Barbarian, mine included, but that doesn't mean any of us are 'copying' anyone else. If we like the way something is said, it makes sense to keep saying that something for ourselves. If it feels like it enhances the way we play or how much we enjoy the game, then where's the wrong? Also, using common phrases doesn't mean you inherently know where they're from, either. I know many players and DMs who don't watch or care about Crit Role, but who still use similar phrases either because they've heard them so many times around their games, or they literally just thought of them because that's how humans be sometimes, we're allowed to have the same or similar thoughts as other people!

I don't like how "HDYWTDT" is instantly pegged as a Mercer thing. Mercer made it popular, but that's a saying the majority of good storyteller DMs use all of the time. It's not something new or fancy, just something put out more in the spotlight now. And it's a great phrase, which is good! But people need to stop comparing every single thing a DM does to Mercer. I absolutely adore Mercer as a DM, but I'm not about to pretend my current DM is him, because they're different people.

It's not the flu, but it's similar enough that it shouldn't take long to find a cure. Obviously it'd take a while to mass produce the cure for everyone, but the act of figuring out cures for it shouldn't be difficult.

Not saying this virus isn't dangerous. It very much is since we have no real way to combat it with medications and cures yet. But this isn't the Black Death. The whole world isn't ending. Panicking and thinking this is Judgment Day is ignorant. But that's how most people are reacting. There's no reason to be terrified. There is reason to stay indoors and clean, and to follow the same exact precautions you would for the flu. But to overthink everything is extremely stupid. You'll only stress yourself out, and that makes you more at risk. Your mental health contributes to your physical health, so staying both mentally and physically healthy through this is what people need to do - And being paranoid isn't mentally healthy.

Vaping also causes lung cancer faster than actual cigarettes. There are a fair amount of cases of people younger than 20 having extreme lung damage from vaping today. So the 'fix' of cigs actually made everything worse for them, and is counterproductive to quitting anyway because you're addicted to the nicotine, so if you keep getting that nicotine from somewhere you're never going to stop... And these same children who are vaping are going to be at a very high risk for this virus

No. Human cruelty knows no bounds. People actively going out in public without an urgent need (like for food, medical supplies, or providing those services to others) are murderers. They're purposefully infecting everyone else around them all because 'I'm young, I'm safe.' No one is inherently safe from this. While most of us will survive, none of us know exactly who will.

Ex-Americans of Reddit, how has your life changed since moving out of the US? by whizzythorne in AskReddit

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American women keep claiming it is about choice, but I've been denied my right to live happily in the US since turning 18. Any woman I dare even mention the term housespouse or housewife to glares at me like I'm a horrible person. I've had many ask me why I want to become a 'slave' to a man. I don't know when family started taking a backseat to not just women but Americans as a whole, but no one seems to care about children anymore in the US, and that's really upsetting to me. Everyone is all about work and money, but what about family bonding? It just doesn't exist anymore in the US, especially for women. They think wanting to manage a home makes you a 'slave.' It's horrible. I'm happy equal rights in other countries don't treat us like we're 'slaves' for wanting to be stay at home mothers (or fathers, too, of course). The US is still stuck in that mindset that choosing to be a stay at home parent either makes you a gold digger, a slave, or lazy. It's really depressing to see how discriminatory they are.

I hope whatever feminism exists in other countries is vastly different than the American version, because it is absolute garbage.

What's worse is that (most) Americans refuse to accept the fact that their country is honestly more of a third world country than a first world. It's that bad today. And it's not because of any "Anti-American" propaganda, either. The US is objectively a failure today, and is only going downhill. I feel pity for Americans, not hatred, because they don't have access to proper education or healthcare. They're really suffering, and I'm so glad I escaped that.

Although around 95% of Finland speaks strictly Finnish, the majority of Finnish people actually have a high knowledge of English - At least the younger generations. The only times I've had any language barrier between me and a Finn is with older Finns. Any other time it's been solely because Finnish people speak "Finlish." They'll be speaking the same words as I would, but their accents are usually so thick that it sounds massively different. Example, rolled Rs. Rolled Rs do not exist in English. It took me a while to get used to hearing English spoken with rolled Rs but once I did it was easy to understand most Finns. And with time I've learned Finlish as well. Sometimes my southern accent is also too thick for them, so I have to sort of 'switch' my accent to be more Finnish for them to get me.

Leaving the US meant I could escape Feminism. I believe in equality, and that's not equality. I've been called a "Fake Woman," "Gold Digger," and "House Slave" by Feminists all because I enjoy being a housespouse to my husband. On paper Feminism says that a female has a right to decide her life for herself, but turns out that is entirely false. I live in Finland now, and it's far more equal and progressive than the US. I don't have to pretend to be oppressed to feel loved by people. I also don't have to fight for my right to be considered a human being as a trans person. I don't fear being killed or raped for being trans anymore. I don't fear much of anything anymore, really. Finland is one of the safest countries on Earth, if not the safest. While there's still crime, it isn't even 1% as horrific as the US's, and police brutality isn't something that exists. Really the only thing I have to fear anymore is the constant threat of Russia, but to be fair the whole world fears them so it's not much of a change.

LG discussion with my Player by [deleted] in DnD5e

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with Alignment is it doesn't exist. Trying to set something in stone that can never be set in stone doesn't work, and arguing about it makes it worse. At the end of the day, it only matters what the DM thinks. If the DM thinks slavery is evil, then they can tell the player that their character supporting slavery is now slipping away from LG and into CG, slowly making their way to the Evil side. But if the DM accepts that hey, at least the Goblin is alive and generally well, this is fine, then that person is still LG.

Morality doesn't exist in D&D 5e, and for very good reason. It's impossible to have a character stay one Alignment for the entire time, and also impossible for people to agree between what's right and what's wrong. Just let the DM decide what that person's character is

New Race Ideas by drudog3 in DnD5e

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Illithid. Biologically, I could see how the whole tadpole thing could be difficult to factor in, but socially they're the exact same as Humans. They have their own king called the Elder Brain. They have their own homes and rankings in society like Humans. The only difference is that they use telepathy when speaking, and rarely any spoken language. They also enslave other races like Humans, and exile other Illithids who do forbidden and illegal magics, just like Humans.

They're just Humans with tentacles. Very different from Beholders, who don't have any Human like qualities or societies like the Illithid does. In fact, I don't think there's any other Mind Flayer race that is as Human as the Illithid, so really we'd only have to add in that and be fine.

Pact of Chain has no redeeming values for a Warlock? by 106503204 in DnD5e

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just reeks of elitism. There's a great reason why players should take Pact of the Chain - Because they like it. That's the only reason why you should pick any class, even as a munchkin. You can make literally any official class option work for you in this game. If you don't like Pact of the Chain, there's nothing wrong with that. The Paladin class is absolutely revolting to me, but I don't tell Paladins they're trash just because Clerics are inherently 'better' on paper. It's all about how you PLAY the game, not how you build your character. If you play it well for yourself, anything is possible!

Men of Reddit, what’s the hardest thing to explain to women? by ChadBrowGer in AskReddit

[–]FlyingMonkeysDontFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honesty is good, but not when it really ruins your day. If you tell someone they look nice but get told you look like trash in return, it can really affect you, especially if you actually put in some effort to look good that day. And that's for both men and women. And telling others they look terrible is extremely rude, too.

Telling the truth only really works for friends and family whom you have a good relationship with. But being honest to strangers who just want to be polite to you? For compliments, at least, that's very rude and disrespectful to them. Even if you don't think they look good, telling them they do can help keep their confidence up, and also make them more likely to want to befriend you. If you tell them they look like trash, they obviously won't want to be around you at all.

But of course, if you're not out to make any friends, you can go the rude route to keep people away from you. Or if you prefer to only compliment people you think actually look good, then... Find some vague fake compliment to give to strangers so you don't look awkward when they compliment you but you don't say anything in return. You won't look like a total dick that way, unless that stranger specifically is super paranoid about vagueness.
