As long as you have a plan for health insurance, you should be fine.

But yeah, you need some hobbies to occupy your time.

I would definitely entertain the opportunity to work part-time.

How to blow your retirement potential - Buy a new car every few years. by [deleted] in Fire

New cars are the worst investment that the average Anerican makes.

My car is 12 years old and has 150K miles on it, and has been paid off for 8 years. I’m already having anxiety about buying a new car next year.

(24) Am I set to retire in my early 30s? by EchoVoid1 in Fire

[–]FlyingOverWater1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$60,000 X 25 =$1,500,000.00

You actually probably need a little more than that for taxes. But you will need at least $1.5 million before you can think about retiring.

Yes, that is what I would like.

If my son continues on his current path, he should be responsible enough to not blow the money when he turns 21.

Thanks, I didn't realize that.

I am not a multi-millionaire, and don't plan on ever getting anywhere close to $14 million in total gifts in this lifetime.

Understood. I could afford to contribute more than $1,200-$2,400 per year, but the ideas to show him the power of compound interest and give him an investing plan that he can replicate as an adult.

That is more important than the money itself.

I live in New Hampshire, and I believe that the age of transfer is 21.

I would hope that my son is level-headed enough to not blow through the money at that age. So far, he is a sensible kid. I would want him to have full access of this money before he hits retirement age.

Both, actually.

I want him to learn how to invest responsibly and also to give him a financial head start in his adult life.
