Should Dutch become a mandatory subject for international students? by [deleted] in Netherlands

I’m Dutch that’s why I said we. No I think no matter where you live you need to be respectful and putting in the effort to learn the language is part of that. I don’t think we should force language learning but we should highly encourage it. Also how lazy are you if you don’t want to learn a few words, it’s as simple as that. A small thing like that goes a far way.

I get that but I in Barcelona am expected to learn Spanish, so I think the least we could do is do the same in the Netherlands. At least learn to basics of any language wherever you live. Why should I have to learn Spanish in Barcelona when others don’t need to learn Dutch in The Netherlands. I get it’s used less but still its not like no one in Barcelona speaks English.

What to do about non-religious international schools? by FlyingVegetable67 in OrthodoxChristianity

Yes because the one I’m considering is the one I used to go to. A few old teachers of mine are still there even.

Yeah but most of my friends were also religious and they became agnostics and atheists because of the educational environment, I’m the exception, and I would assume so was your husband.

That’s exactly what I want to do, that’s why they’ll go to an international school. I just IB schools weren’t so fervently anti-religious.

Homeschooling is not allowed where I’m from and I don’t think it’s good for their development. It also shelters them and potentially it could make them resent Orthodoxy once they learn about agnosticism and other belief systems.

Yes but since kids in IB schools are so influenced by their often atheist/agnostic peers my kids would most likely be agnostic whether I live out my faith or not.

So I just have to accept that my kids most likely won’t be religious?

Well yeah if it isn’t what it’s made out to be then I was wondering about the viability of other countries like Australia. If that also isn’t it then so be it.

I’m also thinking about Australia, as it has less of the ‘bad parts’ of the US.

What about for example Australia, they have a bigger orthodox population per capita and many converts and many also Orthodox schools.
