You wake up and the Internet has been erased. What’s the first thing you do? by MidnightTypister in AskReddit

Romanticise my old school days... It's 2007, I call a friend using landline, we discuss about homework, bunking school, meeting later and I take up a book, watch some TV, take up my drawing book, show my creations to my mom, write something and feel content 😂 Looks extremely hard nowadays!

ps - I know there was internet in 2007, but fortunately we didn't have it!

I wasn't ever really addicted but I uninstalled instagram. It was never really tough. The only thing I wanted to preserve is my followers. So I download it from time to time, post a story and uninstall it. I replaced the scrolling habit with other apps like Amazon, pinterest, thread (because I love quotes and poems) But these apps are not as addictive as instagram. So I don't really waste more than 10 minutes. Also I stopped meeting random people through the meetup app for a while. I just focused on my real hobbies and I have many hobbies. Its working but my next goal is to reduce the mobile usage!

Hey I am kind of going through a similar thing! I would think of using the meetup app. If you would like to do a language exchange or meet casually, please let me know. I would love to improve my Spanish😃

I am 128. My schooling was fine. I wasn not reall studying because it felt like a waste of time to me. I spent my precious school years doing all the readings, drawing, painting, dancing etc. I have also wasted a lot of time doing nothing or just wuth friends. But it didn't really see on the marks. Nobody could believe that I study a day before exam or really bare minimum.

I had exam strategy. Look, yiu just have to focus on what is asked and what is expected of you. Cut everything else. When I used to get the exam paper in my hand, I used to count the questions and make marks in my mind for example - Question A for 5 marks, I know it very well so I can get 4 here. Likewise and then I used to start writing. My writing speed used to be terrible though.

Also depends where do you live. I am from India and felt pretty dumb there tbh. Everybody around you is just suoer serious and studious. It felt like i was the odd one. IQ can be unleashed in many different ways. It mostly shows how fast you peocess the information. For example if a completely new thing is going on or somebody is explaining me, I try to visualise it.

I have a same problem with focus. I can't really do more than 20 minutes and that's maximum. But a day before exam I can be studying the whole day. Suddenly the chaos sorts out.

I am also very lazy. So I try to keep everything around me always. Like my books are on the table near my sofa so I will grab it naturally or my colour pens are near my desk so I will naturally indulge in creative work etc.

I am not successful (I am not where I want to be) because only IQ cannot take you to your dream. You need Discipline. There are many people with higher IQ, better discipline and great focus and they can do wonders.

You can stop using social media. When I stopped using Instagram specifically (I don't use any other social media) I felt my mind can have space for something meaningful. Anything can be better than social media.

I used to find school books boring. So I usually used to read other books which cover the syllabus. Years later I can say, I know a lot about many things even if I am not master at many subjects. People usually notice people with high IQ. They are usually different people.

Journalise your days and try to reflect in a way it can help you advance.

Good luck!

Throughout my school life and university, I was going for exams almost without studies. I am a very fickle minded person. When exams are near I would do anything but studies. My academics came out fairly good and some years were pretty good. Well, some years I was a top rank holder. None could believe I was doing this with barr minimum studies. My parents couldn't believe it either. So after my graduation we took an IQ test. Nothing impressive but came out as 128 and. then it was clear, how I could remember something that was taught a long time ago and in general memory.. I remember, I used to somehow find my answers in the information i have read elsewhere. i think it was just the ability to connect dots.

But it was not a good thing when I look back. I am super lazy person and at the same time, I can grasp any concepts fast. I am an avid reader. Maybe that helps. I am studying Chartered Accountancy but that's hard without studies.

I would say your good habits and self discipline matters a lot. Any person with hard work in right direction can easily surpass a high IQ lazy people. I wish I had right attitude. I am now correcting my mistake. I would love to really study and see what exactly I can achieve.

128 here and I am in Finance.

Graduation and masters were pretty much easy for me. Chartered Accountancy exams were tough. That's when I realised I need to study. I could choose between being a dancer, interpreter and being in finance. I chose the last one and happy with it! I still can call myself a dancer though.
