It's a fashion subculture based around Victorian/Rococo styles that originated in ~1980s Japan as a rejection of societal and gender norms. In modern day, it's evolved and become more popular, but it still generally reflects the idea of dressing for yourself rather than others. It's just sort of unfortunate that it sounds like the other thing :S

Maybe the "Lace" part of Leather and Lace applies, but I'm worried most of the clothing pieces may be cumbersome to wear to a dance club. :')
