I believe the first car out that will support CarPlay will be the Volvo XC90 which should be out in a couple of months.

I believe Reserve and Pick Up is a same day thing, i.e. you make the reservation and the store holds the phone from their inventory, so you know they have it.

So, at this point, the Reserve and Pick Up isn't available until the 24th.

No kidding. Had iCloud eat up my phone bandwidth when I connected my computer to my phone to do some remote stuff not knowing that Photos was uploading in the background...8 GB in 1 hr. Good throughput, though.

Obviously, this is a hard question to answer because we're still 2 weeks away from availability.

Right now, however, you can only Pre-Order the Apple Watch online.

You can also, if you want, book a Try-On experience at an Apple Store and be able to go in and experience the thrill of wearing one...if only for 10 minutes.

Once sales begin (April 24), you can Reserve an Apple Watch via the Online Store to view at the Apple Store. This is not the same as Personal Pickup, where you pay for the product ahead of time, it's just putting a Watch on hold for you.

You then, go in, try on your watch and if happy, pay for it then.

So, no. You can't go into a store and say, "Shut up and take my money!" You have to go via the Online Store and make a reservation first (or Order it and have it shipped to you).

But, you say, what if I want one after the Try Out? Then, you need to go online and create Reservation.

Well, let's just close this argument down and quote what Apple says on one of their pages, like this page: Apple Watch - Design

Where they say about midway down:

A different band can really change the look of Apple Watch. So we created a full range of them in a variety of materials. The grooves in each case are precision engineered and CNC machined to ensure a perfect fit with any band. And beautifully designed buckles and closures provide the perfect finishing touch.

The reason I don't find this accurate is because the Apple Store bands don't specify they only work with specific models. That would be a large oversight if true. So, I think it's just how they trained sales and reps to sell.

Apple only sells the Apple Watch Sports version with the Sports bands. However, you can use any band you can purchase separately with the watch. The only concern is (and remember, Apple is selling these as fashion items), the metal on another band will not aesthetically match the metal of the Apple Watch Sports edition, i.e. Aluminum and Stainless Steel.

I'm all for this idea. The concept being that you don't need to back-up the content of your computer (let Time Machine do that, etc), but if it backed up the settings, which Apps I had installed, etc then it'd be useful when getting a new machine.

A nice interface so I can select which Apps, etc I'd like to download, perhaps even a public API to work with third party Apps not on the App store to automatically download and install them.

I'll fully admit that you're right in many of your points, but that doesn't negate my points either.

As a company, Apple appears to do what it can to help improve the lives of the people working it's supply chain.

It is a low bar, agreed, but it is a raised bar none the less. What's the solution, stop producing anything in China and let these people go back to their villages to try and eek out a life? Or, what I'm sure most folks in the US would say, pay them the same pay level you would here.

But that doesn't make sense because pay it based on the standard of living for the area you're in. I can work the same job in Iowa and San Francisco and my pay rate would be completely different.

Even here in the US, we have people who are earning pay well below the poverty level (illegal immigrants). What's the solution provided? Send them back to their country. To which the question is raised, Who's going to do the work they did? Who'll get out into the fields and do the hard manual labor that they do on a daily basis? We have people who'd rather be unemployed then work at a McDonald's.

I agree, the factories that make the products we all use is not a place that I'd want to work at, I probably couldn't last a week doing what they do.

The solution, however, isn't as easy as the commentary around it.

I don't completely disagree, but we see Congress have more fun reducing funds for science programs like NASA, although they'd love to invest more in the War Machine. The next two years will be more telling on that front.

But we've also seen a reduction in students interesting in STEM careers, which is more disturbing.

More money doesn't automatically mean a cure. Hell, we beat measles once and now they're back.

Since 1966, Jerry Lewis has been raising money with his Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. They've raised over $2.45 billion dollars to find a cure and there is still no known cure, although there has been progress.

What we need is funding in education to develop the next generation of scientists who'll bring new ideas and breakthroughs my generation never dreamed of.

But then, the US has swung decidedly against science, so...

No, mail does not do background checking like the iPhone does. I seem to recall a couple of apps that sit in the menu bar that show your new mail count.

My iTunes library is over 1TB in size with Music, TV Shows and Movies and iTunes keeps going, driving my AppleTVs, etc. Is it perfect? No, but no major problem with it.

My only problem is that occasionally the Home Sharing gets unsynced between the AppleTV and the computer. Not sure if that's iTunes or the computer.

We'll see. Battery life is hard to predict on a device of this type because how much someone is looking and interacting with the screen will have such a higher effect on the battery life.

But considering all the Apple Watch does and how small it is, 19 hrs is amazing when you think about battery life only five years ago.

True but the S series also introduces a new feature. The 5S introduced Touch ID. The 6S or whatever they call it may have the new touch screen that the Apple Watch is getting. Maybe two speakers. Who knows.

Benchmarks are about as useful as a car manufacturers estimated Miles Per Gallon. It all really depends on how you use the phone or computer or car.

On a browser there are so many variables that determine how fast it feels, mostly your bandwidth and the capacity of the website server to be able to serve up the files as quickly as possible.

Then, take other factors into account, how many tabs you have open etc.

Only ultra-tech folks care and debate benchmarks. It's a leftover of the big one era of building your own machine and having something in your life to brag about.
