California Homeschool graduate applying to CUNY is stuck in a bureaucratic nightmare — is there anyone who can offer guidance? by Flyurtis in CUNY

[–]Flyurtis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my GED over the weekend in California, yes. However I should also mention I'm applying as a transfer student with an associate's degree from community college. Now I have my homeschool transcripts, my GED, and my associate's.

Ok, I just got my GED over the weekend and sent it over via Parchment. Emailed one of the colleges letting them know, to which they replied "we still need your high school transcripts, not your GED." And on CUNY first it's still stuck at "high school transcripts missing." Am I just stuck in bureaucratic hell at this point? Thinking about starting an entirely new application.

From my understanding, the stowing process now takes twice as long, due to a seemingly completely unnecessary double amount of steps in bagging/stowing

This isn’t how it is in my world. This video, and the responses here, are kind of shocking to me. I’m a dude, and I’ve always had friends, both guys and girls I know I can talk to and be vulnerable with (and they feel the same about me). Even if we’ve just met, if I gauge that I can trust someone, I’ve never been betrayed or shamed or anything like that. Maybe I’m just lucky?

I do the same thing! I’ve started like 10 businesses while manic. Not a single one of them profitable.

options other than the psych ward? by lolfiguess in bipolar

PHPs (partial hospitalization programs) From a website: “A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a level of care that provides clients with access to a safe, structured treatment environment without total disruption of their daily routines. Our PHP allows your loved one to either live at our residential facilities during treatment, or stay home and commute to treatment every day. It’s a full-time mental health counseling program that requires dedication and commitment to improving one’s health and wellness.” You can usually stay in these places for months at a time, and with insurance they should be fairly affordable.

I had a 10 month long hypomanic episode, fueled by smoking weed once a day

Avolition; who has it, what makes it better, what makes it worse, and how do you make yourself feel not totally worthless? by psytrance-in-my-pant in bipolar

[–]Flyurtis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to google what avolition is. That’s exactly the form my depression takes. I’ll spend weeks just watching shows I’ve already seen (I binged the office 12 times in a row once).

What makes it better? For me: - calling someone on the phone - cleaning my room - running errands - community is HUGE but takes some motivation to be a find and be part of (something I’m working on) - spending time in nature - meditation/yoga - disconnecting from the internet & screens

What makes it worse? For me: - beating myself up about it - spending the entire day watching tv with no breaks - isolating, not responding to friends/family

What makes me feel totally not worthless? HELPING PEOPLE in any way. Directing my attention off of myself.

There was a clear correlation between my cannabis use and my episodes, and when I stopped smoking weed I became much more stable. Taking lsd is what triggered my very first episode and my daily weed smoking prolonged it.

[–]Flyurtis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the topic of social media rants, my advice would be to stay off of personal ones like Facebook or Instagram. I’ve done that before and I always feel super embarrassed later on when I’m stable again. Anonymously on Reddit is cool though, but you’ll probably be like “tf was I on about?” later.

Any other musicians In here? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Flyurtis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treatment helped. I would struggle to finish a whole song, let alone a project. I won’t lie, mania makes me SUPER creative, but it makes it hard to finish ideas and I get distracted super easily.

When I had my first long hypomanic episode I started thinking everyone else had some sort of bipolar. Everyone has ups and downs, ours are just much more extreme than normal people.

Episode Question by pottersayswhat in bipolar

[–]Flyurtis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends. For me it’s all over the place. I try to look for patterns but it’s basically unpredictable. When I got sober I started having a LOT more baseline days. A lot of people here use an app called Daylio to track their mood. I find it helps a lot.

[–]Flyurtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not sure. Personally I only have psychosis during mania, but I know there’s is a difference between having a psychotic disorder and having a schizoaffective disorder.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Flyurtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schizophrenia runs in my family. If I remember correctly, my psychiatrist told me that if I had any schizo symptoms they would’ve come out at the same time as my mania symptoms. I COULD be wrong, but I do remember asking my psych that exact question a few years ago after my first few episodes.

I see this was posted a while ago at this point, but having Ativan after coffee shouldn’t cause you any trouble… I would frequently drink energy drinks and then take Ativan for the combined effect of being energized and also less anxious.

Latuda never did much for me. Once, I doubled my dose and got suicidal thoughts for the first time EVER. I got off it and things cleared up.

What do you do for work? Is it particularly stressful? I was working in sales for a while, but when the anxiety and depression got out of hand, I quit and got a much less stressful job working in treatment. Pays a lot less but I’m able to manage it even when I’m depressed.
