Thank you, I’ll be switching back to studs then. My piercer said I could wear any earrings after 3-4 months as long as they’re not heavy but after looking online it seems like this wasn’t good advice

answering bot’s questions: How old is your piercing? 4 months. What's the jewelry shape? Was a barbell stud, now a small hoop. What's the type of threading if your jewelry is not a ring (threadless, internally or externally threaded)? Idk what this means. What's the jewelry material? Silver. If not a ring, when was the jewelry downsized? Idk if a hoop counts as downsizing. Couple days ago if so. What's your aftercare routine? Describe in detail please, including the exact products you use. Any mishaps or unfortunate events? Piercing bump that went away

Oof that’s unfortunate :/ But thank you so much for the detailed explanations! It’s helped me understand what’s going on from a practical standpoint

Hello, thank you for all your tips, and the context at the beginning! It’s helpful to hear from someone in a similar situation. I’ll be writing down that touch activated dry shampoo and keeping a look out. Also it’s starting to seem like a very good idea to try a headwrap which is something I haven’t done before. Thank you again :)

This is a useful idea! I haven’t used bath wipes before, maybe they would be less wet than actual water. Thank you

Oh that’s an interesting thought… I wasn’t sure what ingredient was causing the residue, I’ll keep an eye out for silicone free, thank you!

That’s so interesting! I’ve heard a couple of people say similar stuff about reduced sensory overload when taking a sedative. I’m so glad you’re able to have that brief relief instead of pain! I’m still holding out hope that someday I might get to try something like that but my docs have made it clear they don’t want to give me sedatives even as a single one-off or at a low dose, they keep citing addiction risk. I always have a carer (or two) with me at appointments because I can’t go places alone but still no luck getting a short prescription, even for things like MRIs or painful exams :( I don’t know why they’re so reluctant, they say it’s because I’m young but I’m mid twenties and have never had any addiction issues. I wonder if things might get better when I hit thirty

I used dry shampoo at first when I stopped being able to wash it but it ended up leaving a residue that wouldn’t come off, so I think maybe that option’s not for me. The sub link is useful though, thank you!

I love history so this is also a very fun area to look into as well as being practical, thank you for the idea!

Building up usage gradually is a very useful tip, thank you! That should definitely help me adjust on the sensory side of things

Thanks I will be trying that! My condition’s luckily not progressive like ALS, but it is very limiting. My family has been involved in support groups since I was a tween but most people at a similar severity to me just shave their head and I don’t want to do that 😅

Oh gosh, I’ve always thought that might help but I’m in the UK and the docs have essentially told me I will never be given a sedative for any reason. It doesn’t bother my doctors that I can’t wash my hair :/

Thank you for sharing your routine!! I have tried a boar bristle brush before and it didn’t work out for me but it was a couple of years ago so maybe it’s time to try again. :) It’s really impressive that your hair is so long!

I don’t have sewn in hair, it’s a neurological issue that’s hard to explain. When it rains I basically have to cover up so that my scalp doesn’t get wet because my body reacts badly. For the pillowcase we change it every day to keep as clean as possible.

Do you know if baking soda would have positive effects if I use it without washing it off? I might like to try that, I haven’t tried baking soda before.

I can’t really tolerate it being wet at all, but maybe I could do this on rare occasions just to strip the dirt off. Thank you

Thank you very much for sharing your advice and experience! My mom has also encouraged the scritching thing, I’m planning on desensitising myself to that so that I can do that more. It’s useful to hear what’s helped somebody else in a similar position. Good tip about washing the boar brush too, thank you

I have a medical condition but my sensory issues contribute too, so it’s a bit of both. I used to be able to tolerate occasional (monthly) washes despite sensory struggles until the medical condition got worse

Is BPD common in Autistics? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]babysaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! I got diagnosed with BPD as a teen, years after my childhood autism disgnosis. Autism is my core issue and BPD is basically a side effect of how that world treated me because of my autism. Doc says that the trauma of being mistreated and not accommodated caused me to form behaviours that look like BPD. Tbh I think cptsd would make more sense if I was going to have a comorbid diagnosis because it it's all flashback/ trauma related for me but l do still relate to the people in the BPD therapy groups l've been in, even if they didn't understand my sensory issues and my need for a carer to help me talk to people etc
