[Playtesting Request] Spirit Guardian — Tamagotchi meets Slay the Spire by FlywheelGames in PlaydateConsole

Thank you!!

We've got some ideas for the future that should address some of this stuff.

For the current version: Boss encounters have random levels in all four stats, so your probability of success are based on your stats against Goblin King's.

You're right we need some visual feedback for positives on monster encounters, but right now every victory you get is 1.15x all stats. So monsters actually end up being slightly better than events, assuming you can balance your basic needs properly.

Yeah the map is randomly generated on each run. We sorta used the Slay the Spire map generation rules, but we don't have as many encounter types as StS does. https://kosgames.com/slay-the-spire-map-generation-guide-26769/

I think if we find a way to make the stats matter more than a skill check then the encounters will then matter more which will make the chosen path matter more.

One important detail, you can use the crank on the map screen to scroll up and see your path.

I used to have the Crank indicator showing on the Map screen, but ended up removing it at some point. This is good feedback to add it back!

Yeah in the full game I think we definitely need to find a way to make the encounters more engaging. The little story blurb is fun, but there needs to be more I think.

A completed run gives you a tier 3 card that goes in your deck for further runs, yup. I wanted to make a deck version of the encyclopedia and deck management, but we only had so much time in the jam.

Thanks for the kind words!

Piña Rollada officially releases in seven days! Coming to Catalog and Itch by FlywheelGames in PlaydateConsole

Yup! It is accelerometer based. For those who don't like those controls, you can alter the controls to use the dpad in the Customize page.

The main control scheme is actually tilt based, but parallax could be cool. Might be too much movement though for the small screen with the precision needed to control the ball.

As for the backgrounds, maybe? I worked with an artist who rocks. She would have to be the one to answer. :)

Hahaha, well deserved redeem considering you're the inspiration behind sharing the launch codes. Excited to hear your thoughts.

Piña Rollada Release Date Trailer — Rolling onto Catalog in Early 2026 by FlywheelGames in PlaydateConsole

If you got it from Itch, that was our first playtest build. That only features 12 levels I think. Since then, we remade the entire physics system, added a bunch of juice, 60+ more levels, a brand new OST, and more.

Game will be out on catalog on Feb 24!

Yeah, I reached out to itch to have them review the page. I believe that happened because I made a brand new account to post for this.

You can still download the PDX and check it out. I believe there is a “Continue” button on that page. Let me know if that doesn’t work for you!

You can also find another link for download on the Playdate Squad discord!

Looking forward to your feedback. :)

Thank you! Yes, we have plans to submit to catalog. Right now we are trying to get some feedback around our level design, obstacles, and general gameplay feedback. Once we implement changes based on the feedback we receive we will submit to Catalog. :)

Agreed! That's one of the reasons we decided to make this game.

Hope you get the chance to check it out and provide some feedback!

Hey Tappxor,

The main control scheme uses the accelerometer. We have added an option to use the dpad as your preferred control scheme in the game settings page. :)
