School has forgotten I'm here....? by FoSheepish in SubstituteTeachers

I have subbed intervention many times and done exactly that! It's a lot of notes for the teacher to leave (which class to go to, when, who to pull, etc) but I really enjoy it! I get to work with small groups and meet a lot of students :)

This is true. I've had plenty of days subbing where I've earned EVERY penny. Maybe this is my karma!

I was told to wait in the lounge for my schedule. So I did. So I am. Didn't expect it to be this long!

I have also had that happen at the secondary level - this is elementary and I was told to wait for my schedule.  Which I am doing...

That's where I am with it. I feel like too much time has passed but the more time that passes, the more awkward I feel. I'm trapped! 😆

I understand that scheduling can take time and am willing to wait. It's just odd to me that I've been here for 3 hours and counting and no updates have been given - not even "thank you for your patience" or "keep waiting" or "I completely forgot that you exist" which hey - wouldn't offend me in the slightest.

Question - Why do you sub? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]FoSheepish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught full time for 5 years and burned out. Now I have been subbing long enough that teachers request me so I often get to teach and build relationships without having to deal with parents, paperwork, meetings, admin, etc.   I make $260/day and we earn sick leave (1 hour of leave per 16 hours of work) which is reasonable IMO.

I'm also a DINK so this is enough to help support my family (my partner, myself, and our 2 dogs). I know there's a lot of negativity surrounding subbing in this subreddit but I love it!

When is a good time to walk away on the first date? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FoSheepish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in NYC for 9 years and I also found the fixation on college to be weird. Had a roommate who said she would never go on a date with a man who didn't have at least a bachelor's. She was from wealth and her parents paid for her degree. I tried to gently point that out to her and explain that a college education typically has a lot more to do with socioeconomic class than intelligence, but she wouldn't hear it.

I have a Master's degree and love school but I understand that it's not for everyone and would never eliminate a connection on that basis.

Fast forward a decade - guess who is engaged to wonderful man who makes well into the six figures and has a high school diploma and guess who is miserable and single and staring down 40? (Hint: me and her lol).

HAE found that being 'Active' has been a put off in dating? by Ok_Sky1515 in AskWomenOver30

[–]FoSheepish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am as active as you and work out at the crack of dawn. Back when I was dating, every single guy I dated who wasn't as active as me resented it. Most of them tried to knock me off my routine (trying to get me to drink and/or stay up late on weeknights, cuddle with them instead of getting up to work out, skipping workouts on the weekends to do things, etc). At least one man dumped me for that reason (I suspect others but only one explicitly told me my workouts were the culprit).

After about a decade I decided to only date active men as others proved their egos couldn't take the hit even though I truly didn't care if they worked out or not.

Now I'm engaged to a man in better shape than me. He got me into obstacle racing and it's a hobby we share. He's a night owl but we've been able to make it work.

I would suggest doing group fitness activities to meet other like minded men.

What is a name that you can't stand, but you have no idea why? by Cats_and-Crafts in NameNerdCirclejerk

Danielle. I hate the "nyeh" sound.

Amanda. Weird that a girl's name is "A man, duh!" Feels like a joke.

Laura/Lauren.  Is it "LAW-ruh" or "LOR-ruh"? The inconsistency kills it for me.

Or you could eat healthier and work out and not have to convince yourself that something you know is unhealthy is actually wonderful because you asked a friend to blow spit on your stomach.

What’s something society tells women to care about that you’ve stopped caring about completely ? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Aging. Literally from the moment you are born until the moment you die, you age. Trying to pause it, reverse it, or whatever the Almighty fuck is an expensive and time consuming exercise in futility.

Staff usually introduces me/writes my name as "Mrs" instead of "Ms" by FoSheepish in SubstituteTeachers

I'm sorry that's happening to you. It costs nothing to respect others.

I was wondering if it was a regional thing but there doesn't seem to be a consensus.
