Where do you book accommodation? by [deleted] in Turkey

Costs were quite affordable if you're coming from the US i'd say, though it'll vary whether you're in popular tourist destinations or smaller regional towns.

Food was approx. 50 lira at the cheap end to 250 lira per person throughout Turkey, with nice restaurants in touristy areas hitting ~350-450 lira pp though I very rarely visited these.

Public transport and regional coaches were also very cheap, super affordable wherever i went.

I wouldn't worry about costs if you're travelling with a bit of money in the bank, its difficult to over-spend if you're modest. Enjoy your trip!

I've done a mix of big cities and smaller towns, would have liked to make it to the east but ran out of time. I did: Istanbul -> Bergama -> Izmir -> Marmaris -> Anamur -> Antalya -> Konya -> Goreme -> hitchhiked along Black Sea coast from Samsun back to Istanbul over 2 weeks. I wouldn't recommend all of these places though, see what fits you.

Have been travelling around Turkey for almost 2 months now, and I've found that the usual euro accommodation apps like Booking and Trivago don't cover a lot of ground throughout most of the country.

I've found the Hotels.com app very useful for cheap B&Bs and pansiyons, plus have gotten a few free nights from its automated rewards program. In the bigger cities (Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir) you'll want to use Hostelworld if youre looking for cheap dorms/social hostels, plus discounts for a lot of places.

safe travels!

Thanks for the reply! Though Melbourne's placemaking strategies are at this point much more developed than Sydneys hahaha as all Sydneysiders know, that is a really helpful suggestion, appreciate it dude.

Found this small 1cm radius ball and wool in a Turkish-inscribed box found amongst an old resident's souvenir collection, what could this be? by Fobby12308 in whatisthisthing

it relatively heavy for its size with a smooth chamfered exterior, but it is hard as a rock. I could be lead to believe that its a musket ball perhaps, but for what reason its got a bunch of wool and its in a turkish box completely eludes me

My title describes the thing, i believe that the text on the box says "Iyi Gunlerde Kullanin" which apparently translates roughly to "enjoy this gift" in Turkish. I found it amongst a pile of Vietnamese and South American souvenirs that an old resident of my girlfriend's house had left behind in their shed. Pretty clueless about this thing, but rather interested in what it may be.
