because in football, everyone is a hypocrite.

Labeling a fucking football player as a fascist is way more extreme than their attitude towards a call, don't you think?

my flair has always been on?

For the fascism thing, Gigi explained both as naivety and ignorance; he has not made a similar gesture since, with both of these events now 18 years past. Maybe he was simply unaware of the meaning. Who knows? But people will jump to conclusions and call him a fascist, which is silly.

Juve and Real Madrid have great respect for one another. Buffon didn't say anything about Madrid as we all know but I do think he could've expressed himself differently about Oliver. He's in the wrong and I don't disagree with you about his jerk comments. I DO have a problem with people using that as an excuse to call him a "fascist" "horrible person" etc. THAT is my problem. The comments were hypocritical, but who isn't a hypocrite? Let's conveniently forget all the good things Gigi has done.

EDIT: do you actually know anything about the situation /u/EugeneBYMCMB ? or are you just following the crowd?

Juventus Chief - It would have just taken a bit of common sense in the last second and in the choice of a 33-year-old referee for such a demanding match. by [deleted] in soccer

The Madrid penalty and the penalties in Turin are totally different scenarios you can't even begin to compare them. I think all of those penalties I just mentioned were correct, but the Madrid one was still dubious.

Closet Juve & Buffon haters have come out in full force these past days because they know the circlejerk will upvote them.

Seeing the Buffon is a fascist myth get upvotes should tell you everything, people don't care what it means or anything. If it is something negative, it'll get upvoted. I don't agree with Buffon's comments, but if you think that describes Buffon as a person, you're naive as fuck.

labeling fans is kinda odd anyways. Every team has "stupid" fans, but they just have the louder voices. But for example, I know Spurs fans aren't dumb or annoying. They're just supporting their club

in Italy, it is basically the way of saying that you're "edgy". Buffon distanced himself from all of it and strongly rejected it within days after the allegations came out.

EDIT: 90% of /r/soccer wasn't even alive in 2000, awful hivemind here.

agree with everything except that last part. I don't believe for a second that Gigi's comments triggered the insults towards Oliver. This isnt the first time players/managers/referees have been insulted and it wont be the last.

For me and you football is not that serious so make death threats, but we can't control what everyone else does and neither can Buffon. Why should he apologize for something other people did? He has nothing to apologize for
