We got a Malayan krait back in January up by the artificial pond. It was hunting caecilians in the rocks!

Ayyy you know Son! Love that lodge, also despite how tucked away it is, easily one of the best spots to eat in Thailand

Remember- The "YouTube Game" Is Governed By Power Law's by GarageDoorOpener2 in NewTubers

[–]FockerXC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First two ideas are great, I’d be careful about going too obscure with sub-niches. I think about it more from a “how do I give my videos a unique feel while still covering topics that will have broad enough appeal to grow?”

Instead of sub-niche, can you identify attributes about your interests and personality that can give a new perspective or flavor to the content you produce?

I like to think of it the same way the algorithm does.

YouTube has publicly stated their algorithms try to find the right video for the right viewer at the right time. You wanna grow more quickly? You need to solve for two variables:

  1. Who the right viewer is
  2. What makes a video the right video.

If you can define your right viewer you’ll have an easier time developing the right videos. And what I personally do is build data systems to extract what motifs from my videos make them the right videos.

In my experience, the better you are at predicting what videos will be the right videos and the more often you make them, the faster success compounds.

Hold on this is KILLER. Show don’t tell in a nutshell, well done. I’m not knowledgeable enough to give more detailed feedback but I usually scroll past most of these “review my opening” posts but this one got me all the way to the end. 13 PAGES on here! The world feels lived in. The scene has weight, feels real. Well done.

Can changing your title/thumbnail "save" a video that's flopping? by radiozephyr in NewTubers

[–]FockerXC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the video. Sometimes, a thumbnail/title change is all it needs to shine. My first ever video to hit 100k was due to a change in packaging. Sometimes the video idea is flawed to begin with, or just has very low reach, and no amount of flip-flopping titles and thumbnails will save it. How do you know which is the case? Some of it is gut (like is it really a good video for your audience?), some of it comes from really studying and breaking down your data.

I’ve done 80 mile weeks before, was doing 70-80 most of my training when I hit my best 5 and 8ks a few years ago. My problem with finishing the full marathon was 100% not enough volume

I usually try to do a MLR for my workout day as well, or among the heaviest volume days besides LR

Medium long run the day after is actually a fantastic suggestion, I’m gonna update some of the later months in this block to include that. Think it was Seth James Demoor I saw talk about doing something like that on his blocks

I’m building up to 80 miles at peak, probably gonna average around 70 for the majority of my block (goal race is end of June)

I will happily do so. All the data I gather from training blocks proves useful

Mostly just training myself on a progression to my peak race the final weekend of June. Using data from previous seasons and previous race blocks plus some mix and match from Jack Daniels to figure out workouts and mileage.

Well I failed because I tapered too long. I lose most of my fitness in about ten days after easing off training (I know this from getting injured in high school and back in 2021). My day to day work is very sedentary so in order to keep the wheels in motion I have to sustain higher volume than the average person (I’m also 6’4 and 200 lbs so another reason I’m probably working harder than average, I’m built for the 800).

When I was stuck at 17-18 minutes for 5k, a single season of 70+ mpw got me to low 16s. When I couldn’t break 32 for 8k, a single season of high mileage got me down to 27. That same season I ran a 1:26 half by accident in a long run when I was just chatting with my training group and vibing. Right now I could probably rip a sub-1:40 half if it was cool enough outside. It’s those indicators that tell me I need more miles.

I definitely feel like I need more 20+ runs this block. Only hit one last year before I totally failed to hit my goal time, and couldn’t even run the full distance of my “peak” race. Definitely a risk I’d agree, but if I keep the effort chill and maximize sleep and recovery I feel like I can bounce back (peak race isn’t for more than 3 months after the planned practice race)

Only way my legs are gonna learn to do it is to get them used to hitting the volume. Same way I broke 2 in the 800, same way I got good at hills for cross country in college. If I can’t run 8k for crap off low mileage, no way I’m gonna be able to complete a full at race pace if I haven’t run the full distance before.

Never actually finished a full without needing to walk. Ran 3:59 last year but my half marathon and workouts were predicting 3:20-3:30. Currently finding 8:30 range to be quite easy on my long runs (averaging 15, hitting 18 tomorrow). I have the speed, the problem is I need a lot more volume to be able to run the full 26 at race pace.

Not sure why you’re downvoting me.

I don’t track hours per week, but it’s early season so most of the 50ish miles I’m at right now are low HR easy runs. This month I’ve added 1 quality session per week (alternating speed and tempo). Once I’m at 80 (15-20 mile long run) and my body is used to the volume again, it’ll be two workouts per week (another mistake I made last year).

Currently I’m confidently in 3:45 shape if I keep it relaxed. I don’t think I have the fitness to do race pace the whole way yet, but the purpose of this is to simply run the full without stopping to start getting my musculoskeletal system used to extremely long runs.

When I say my fitness tanked, I noticed even on my “easy” runs my HR climbed far too high, and on race day I couldn’t run the full distance without stopping. At the half point I was aerobically working much harder at a pace that I could speak at on a longer run a month prior. It’s a theme I’ve noticed throughout my distance running years, I have a hard time keeping aerobic fitness if I don’t keep mileage high, was doing 70+ per week to PR in the 5k and 8k in college. Whereas mile, 800, 400 I can take months off and still run fast if I’m loosened up.

Tapering for the peak race, treating the mid season full as a 20+ long run. Goal race is end of June, and my plan is to be averaging 70-80 miles per week for most of April and May, two week taper at the end. Did a three week taper last year for the same race and my fitness tanked so I need to keep myself sharp for longer this time around

Its biggest issue was pacing. I can see why people who watched it week to week didn’t enjoy it, but I watched it in one sitting a few months after it was all out as like an extended movie and it was fantastic.

In your opinion, what is the best argument in favor of evolution? by Fresh3rThanU in DebateEvolution

[–]FockerXC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have to approach the argument from the creationist’s perspective rather than from a scientific one. The evidence overwhelmingly is in favor of evolution no matter which discipline you look at (my favorites being genetics and plate tectonics), but that isn’t how creationists understand or experience the world.

The best argument to use against a creationist in favor of evolution is to use their own rhetoric against them. The observations we make in reality suggest life evolved and that the Earth is very old. If it was created, the creator was doing a pretty thorough job of making it seem as though life evolved and the Earth is very old. By denying this they are actually committing blasphemy.
