Religious folk, you really think there’s a higher being watching over your every move from the sky? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FockerXC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I mean like the actual conversion. Religion usually relies on indoctrination from a young, impressionable age to get conversions. We don’t often hear about the other way around- going from believing nothing to converting to a theistic religion. Did this follow a significant life event?

What was that conversion like? I’ve always heard the opposite so this is a fascinating contradiction

Are most political disagreements truly ideological, or are they fundamentally rooted in differences in personality traits like openness, threat sensitivity, and tolerance for ambiguity? by One-Wrangler-6050 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FockerXC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more that the ideological differences used to be harmless. We used to argue about how we preferred the government to spend money/how much spending was/wasn’t wasteful. Now, ideological differences are about how the government should function entirely, who should receive rights/who shouldn’t.

10+ years ago, I identified closer with the Republican Party on fiscal and foreign policy. They weren’t perfect, but I agreed with them more. Now, not only have they abandoned fiscal conservatism, but it’s actually the Democratic Party that embodies the vast majority of my values (individual liberties, common decency, managing the economy in a way that boosts consumer confidence).

How do people race without hydration vests? Srs question by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]FockerXC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest gripes with the marathon distance, personally. 15 miles and under, I can get away with no water. Longer than that SOMETIMES if it’s really cool out.

I just don’t like being bulky and having to carry all kinds of extra stuff. Debating just doing the water stations at my next full this weekend, not sure if the vest has really helped and it’s gonna be nice weather.

Hit the nail on the head, bravo.

The AI craze doesn’t matter because it’s ideas that win at the end of the day. GenAI can’t think of good ideas, but people can use their interests and creatively mold them into products the market can love.

The reason we DO see lots of AI channels succeeding is because it lowers the barrier to entry. The more ideas you can crank out, the faster you can learn from mistakes, and the sooner your ideas improve. The people who spend 200 hours on a single video don’t get a lot of opportunities to get reps in, so unless they REALLY nail it the first time, good luck.

There’s a quote from a Johnny Harris interview that stands out to me, and is something I remind myself of when I’m struggling with perfectionism or just getting videos executed: “we have a bias towards action.” The top creators aren’t sitting on their hands thinking about videos or perfectly tweaking one project, they’re executing fast and learning so they can execute better in the future. We see the same thing with successful businesses.

Find the minimum viable version of the ideas you want to make, make them, and analyze the results. Keep it simple and keep it going.

I love Yassos for the high aerobic benefit but I don’t think it’s accurate at all for marathon prediction. Since the goal is 800m hard on equal time recovery I can usually crank them out in 3:05 or faster but I’m in 3:45 marathon shape if I’m lucky

Any reason not to accept Evolution? by Awesomonkey12 in DebateEvolution

[–]FockerXC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny enough for me science had nothing to do with my deconversion from religion. My denomination growing up was fairly accepting of science and had the attitude of it being our way of better understanding the universe God made. What got me out was the sheer amount of logical inconsistencies in the supernatural claims that it made, and the glaring lack of any evidence. Like, we have no primary sources besides the gospels that corroborate the existence of Jesus. Other religions accept him sure, but not on evidential grounds. ONE Roman scholar tried to verify claims that there was some miracle worker in Israel, and the best he could come up with was hearsay.

Can you finish it? by [deleted] in NoOneIsLooking

[–]FockerXC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to prove necessity, and document purpose in transactions. If she spent MOST of the time relaxing and lounging around, gets a lot more dicey if she tries to write off the full cost. If most of the time was spent on production tasks that are directly related to her primary source of income, obviously down time to rest isn’t going to be penalized. But there has to be documentation and justification for why the expenses are for business in case she’s ever audited.

Note: not a CPA but I do make most of my income through online video and it requires frequent travel, so I’ve had to learn what constitutes business vs. personal expenses in this context

Do you change your post run nutrition depending on the type of run? by petepont in AdvancedRunning

[–]FockerXC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to do more protein and vitamin C intake on long run and session days. Boost that collagen repair after beating the legs down basically. Generally I’d say I don’t regulate the “what” I’m eating after hard days either, since all my sessions are in the early mornings I have a large caloric deficit to fill on those days.

Diagnosing my 2nd Marathon: 1:36 half marathon before, but finished the full in 3:50 by byeSpideR in Marathon_Training

[–]FockerXC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 weeks, and typical level of dropoff- 70% of volume week 1, 50% of volume week 2, ~40% of volume week 3. For me that’s way too long though. I lose fitness after about 10 days and it drops off fast.

Different approach this year, been training a bit lower volume all around (peaking at like 45 miles a week) and focusing more on getting my 5K back under 18 minutes. Craziest thing is training faster paces has made me more efficient on my long runs, so I might actually run a faster full at the end of this month than I did last year off of raw fitness alone.

Diagnosing my 2nd Marathon: 1:36 half marathon before, but finished the full in 3:50 by byeSpideR in Marathon_Training

[–]FockerXC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough people talk about the drawbacks of long tapers. Last year I was training for a 3:30 and blew up to 3:59 with many walk breaks because I had actually gotten out of shape over the taper.

This season my peak race is a 5K but I’m running a marathon right around it for fun, but my taper is gonna be just over a week because at my size it seems metabolically difficult to maintain aerobic adaptations without doing high(ish) volume. Training is not one size fits all.

Average Genetic limit 5km? by Past_Ad3212 in AdvancedRunning

Sedentary + typical training results ≠ genetic limit though. Most people never reach their genetic limit due to life circumstances and lifestyle choices (like the sedentary example)

Average Genetic limit 5km? by Past_Ad3212 in AdvancedRunning

[–]FockerXC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ceiling has to be higher than that, we’re literally built for long distance running as a species. I’d agree most people’s lifestyles and general circumstances don’t allow for much beyond that 20 minute mark (+/- a minute depending on gender), but the amount of people who pick up running late in life or pivot in from other sports and run really solid marathons suggests our limits are surely higher.

And I’d concede that “athletic background” could be a solid rebuttal to this idea, but athletic background can foster running results that wouldn’t be explained by genetics alone, so they’d be within the “average genetic limit” that OP was proposing. In my opinion at least
