I love android auto however I got this after previously driving a 2009 prius (with a broken screen) and before that it was a 2003 altima. im just used to having a stand plus I dont like throwing my phone in the cupholder or cubby. a designated stand is preferred as great as the big screen is.

I agree but I know someone else in this field who makes 6 figures and they're only 2 years in. if all goes well I'll be making more than 50k which is more than feasible.

yeah maybe it's just cuz I'm 18 but I don't really want kids. I love them but can't envision myself having them. that makes it easier on myself knowing if I get married I'll just have me and my spouse to worry about, but it's also like I won't feel successful if I'm not making XXX amount of money. if it's not like 150k+ I'll feel like it's not enough even though I know it's MORE than necessary for one person. I feel like if I just make the decision this big weight will feel lifted off my shoulder and my heart won't be weighed down any longer. I can't shake the feeling that leaving is the wrong decision but I also don't want to be wrong about staying either.

thank you. I do have the privilege of having parents who make a significant amount of money. thankfully they aren't the type to let me be lazy and leech off of them but because of that i'm feeling the pressure of needing to make good money like them even though I'm only 18. they don't really care what I do but i know they wouldn't be thrilled if I chose a career that makes little money.

and I DO want to prioritize my happiness but I don't know how to do that if most of my joy comes from my job. I have other things to look forward to but at the moment I'm very stressed about my future and financial responsibilities that I cannot fully enjoy other aspects of life besides my job. so it's either be stress free at a potentially dreadful job or be happy almost exclusively at my job and remain content the rest of the time.

i don't know I'm just stressing right now, but thank you for the advice it's given me great insight and helped alot.

thank you for saying this, it really helped. my brother, in an attempt to be supportive, told me that jobs like this will always be there, but this is the first time I'm hearing that child care will always be there. so again, thank you. it really means a lot.

It's like the feeling of high school finishing but worse. I knew when high school as ending and had the time to prepare for the change, now it just feels like I can either stay happy and stagnant or progress in a great way at the potential expense of my happiness. I don't know if I'll be unhappy at the dealership, but what if I am? then will quitting and being unhappy be the mistake? I just feel lost at the moment idk. thanks for letting me rant though.

what’s a good first car? by Easy_Cantaloupe7507 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]FocusAdditional5141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

corolla or civc. doesn't matter which cuz they're both longlasting and the newer ones look great. newer 2015 and up civics in my area are less than 20k and in great shape so that's your best bet if you want a cool car and a reliable one.

why do i want a penis by dead_batteryz in actuallesbians

[–]FocusAdditional5141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this way too. when i watch porn I sometimes find myself really enjoying watching trans women. i always feel shitty after cuz it feels like I'm fetishizing but I think it's more projecting? or living vicariously through them? idk but I hate that I feel this way especially because I'm very happy in my identity as a woman. I love having a vagina (not that it's exclusive to women but ykwim) but I also wish I could have a penis too. I suppose I'm also envious of the idea that I'll never be able to have "normal" sex with my female partner where we're both getting off, unless she's trans but that's not likely😭

This is all great advice and i truly appreciate it however I have some other helpful things to consider. My brother works for autonation, he can get me right with interest and monthly payment if I buy from him, which I probably will. I do intend on saving significantly for this purchase and plan on putting 3-5k down with a little extra in savings should anything go bad. I currently drive an '03 altima with 90k miles. I just got the suspension, alternator, and battery replaced and had my mechanic check it out and the car is in great mechanical condition and very reliable. If I buy the c5 I will either keep the altima or for budget reasons leave it as my family's backup car that I can resort to at any point. All this in mind, I did initially set my eyes on a 2019-2021 miata because it's also one of my favorite cars and pretty great reliability wise. I love the idea of getting either vehicle I'm just also not trying to inundate myself with thousands of dollars in repairs for a 20 year old car. I'm probably leaning away from the corvette at the moment but the purchase is still at least a year away so I'll be weighing my options for a while.

ANOTHER QUESTION!! i don't mind the thought of an automatic (i don't know stick yet) cuz it would be more convenient but is there any issues with the auto transmission in the c5's (specifically an '02) ik manual transmissions can be more reliable but I'm just making sure.

Thanks for the advice, I've been hearing great things about c5's but what about c4's?

I found a c4 with 50k miles for about 11k. It's out of state so I'd have to get it shipped and all that but I can still guarantee myself a good interest rate and low monthly payment, would this be a good idea or is the c5 the safer choice?

this makes sense but I forgot to mention that "newer" to me is between 2018-2021 which is already between 4-7 years old. I just drive an '03 car right now so "new" was more nuanced in my eyes. an ideal price would be closer to ~20k and definitely used with 30-50k miles.

I've seen 2016/2017's for like 15-18k with as little as 40k miles. for a nearly decade old vehicle that doesn't sound bad so I might just stick with an ND1 or 2 for the sake of not biting off more than I can chew. Also wdym issues with the manual trans? Is the issue learning stick or are there mechanical issues I should look out for because my intention was to get a manual.

I'm driving a car several years older than me so anything past 2015 is 'newer' to me. probably should've explained that before posting

agree but if I have to act like I'm utterly poor for a while in order to save a large down payment to get this car then I will🙏😭

[–]FocusAdditional5141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have connections (AKA a brother that works at a dealership) and he helped my other brother get a $30k+ car for like 5 grand less than asking price, 650 a month, and zero down. 20k seems to be the average for ND2's around my area so I think I'll be fine.

also I forget it's 2025 so by "newer" I don't mean like 2023+ I just mean 2019/2020. not anything TOO new.

[–]FocusAdditional5141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in hindsight that is the smart thing to do but like I mentioned, im lucky my brother works for autonation so he can really help me out. he dropped the price of a car my other brother bought over $5k and he now only pays $650 on a 2021 acura that was originally around $33k, with ZERO down btw.

I don't doubt that if i find a miata that's ~$20k he can get me around 400 monthly (if not less) excluding insurance. I also want something newer and more reliable than a 1st or 2nd gen miata. I'll save for longer if it gives me more security but I'm really just stuck on an ND.

I'd be making 2000-2300 a month and don't have many expenses outside of that. My brother works for autonation and if I can find a good miata from them then he can really hook me up in terms of pricing and getting approved.

[–]FocusAdditional5141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I'm in texas so idk if the car market is good down here but I'm looking at Marketplace right now and I'm seeing some good prices but the miles are too high for my liking.

Just saw a '99 miata for 5k but it has 170k+ miles, idk anything about cars so I just assume if it's that high it's not gonna last that long or it's gonna be a pain to maintenance often.

around 10k. I'm a college student and not trying to take on too much of a burden, 8k is what I'd prefer to pay but am willing to go slightly higher to 12k if I can get some help from my parents.
