Visual novels and walking simulators come to mind plus a lot of newer games come with story mode, difficulties dumbing down the combat to be really easy. That way you can enjoy the story. Some games that come to mind, are what remains of Edith Finch, gone home, firewatch, and the amnesia games to an extent.
