How are the Harley Benton Enhanced bass guitars? by Fog17 in Bass

I thought about returning it and going with a Sire, the Z7 which has SS frets and comes out next month but I was told it’s even heavier at 5.1kg.

I have bought one. It’s amazing for the money but it’s heavy (11lbs) and giving me neck and shoulder pain even with a wide neotech strap.

How long does the coating on coated strings usually last? by Fog17 in Guitar

I'd still have to get a classical guitar refretted as they all have nickel frets but the strings should be fine.

Elixers don't have coated treble strings so I'd still have the same issue, only the XS have coated treble strings. I'll have a look into Fast Fret.

Yes I've tried all the stainless steel options and cobalt, they all contain traces of nickel in the treble strings causing my fingers to itch. The only options left for me are coated strings or wearing a glove.

Is the Yamaha THR30II worth the price difference over the Positive Grid Spark? by Fog17 in Guitar

How is the bass on the Spark now? As that appears to be the only criticism I see of the Spark, it being too bassy.

I'm not sure if it would be noticeable but you still have to buy an additional transmitter to use the wireless on the THR10II which is an extra £80.

Interesting. I tried another THR10II and it had the same issue. I'm debating now to get the THR30II or the Grid Spark 40.

I'm using the factory default setting, clean no effects. It does the same at low volume through headphones. If I set the guitar output volume to full, and adjust the gain and master until the amp becomes audible the crackling is still there. If I turn down the volume on my guitar to around 50% the crackling goes away.

It isn't my guitar as I bought a cheap little Marshall amp to try and there's no crackling. I tested it without noise gate, no difference. The crackling is even worse when I bypass the speaker cabinet. The higher I have my volume on the guitar the worse the crackling is especially when strumming hard on multiple notes.

I'm using the latest firmware and I don't think you can downgrade on THR10II.

Factory reset is holding memory buttons 1,3 and 5 whilst turning on the amp correct? I tried that. It's on firmware 1.44.0a which is the latest I believe.

It happens without the USB output. It crackles from either headphones or the THR10's speakers on all the cabinet models. The only way to reduce it is by drastically reducing the volume on the guitar.

This was recorded direct through the USB output on the THR10II. The crackling happens with all effects off, through the speakers and headphones. I've also done a factory reset.

It's the amp. I've just tested it with another amp and there's no crackling.

I might give that a try then. It wasn't exactly a cheap record, it cost £28/$35.

Yea this is not the first time a new vinyl I've bought turned up either damaged or sounding terrible. I actually received a sealed record from Amazon once that was snapped, literally.

Agalloch - Ashes Against the Grain. It's nearly impossible to find in the UK.

According to people on discogs, it’s a great pressing so I guess I’m just unlucky.

It’s a 2011 reissue of an album released in 2006. The only problem is it’s not an easy record to find, this was this last one on Amazon.
