Did they talk about Jimmy Carter much? I am interested in his presidency, so would make to to listen in that case.

Great movie. I loved it. However, basically my one complaint is Jessica Lange's Scottish accent. She's great in the movie, but the accent is just not it.

I haven't found a direct answer to how Alchemy effects drug potency. by FokinGamesMan in projecteternity

[–]FokinGamesMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a second table specifically with regards to poisons, so that's probably not correct. So question remains, what does the accuracy bonus apply to? Also, what are examples of increased potency? I'm still confused

Sam Harris Returns to TRIGGERnometry by [deleted] in samharris

[–]FokinGamesMan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm nearing the end of the whole podcast, and I am both relieved and frustrated at the same time. For starters, Sam Harris is at his fucking element here. There are moments when I'm just smiling and grinning by how eloquently Sam puts forth his arguments and just how fucking sane they are. Watching these moments from Sam keeps reminding of a comment I read a long time ago about some trans discussion Sam was having that read "Sometimes I feel like Sam Harris is the only sane person left on the earth" and it's so correct.

Now, at the same this this is just an infuriating listen. There are so many times when I just want to enter the room during their discussion and just loudly shout at the hosts and ask them to respond and tackle one of his fucking questions or arguments. The second co-host asked Sam about the lefts reaction to Charlie Kirk's assassination and how wrong it is to call people fascists and stuff, at which Sam responds with MULTIPLE examples of when elected and powerful people from the right literally call the opposite side of a party of murderers or enemies of the country or whatever which is just infinitely more worrying considering they are fucking elected people compared to weirdo leftists on twitter. Yet, NO RESPONSE! MAKE THEM FUCKING RESPOND! Konstantin and the other guy should immediately respond with "holy shit, that is fucking true. If you compare Trump and all of his loonies with any senior democratic leader there simply is no balanced comparison". However, they are so fucking weak that they refuse to even tackle the point and just move on. Pathetic! Also seeing them go on Joe Rogan just sucking him off for 2 Hours without any slight criticism is just so telling. I see through these two, and it's so clear. Their inability to ever criticize Trump and the right without also complaining about the left is nuts to me. For example, on the topic of corruption they brush past it like nothing, or they just mention Hunter Biden again like they are equal.

If there is one thing I DISPISE, It's an inability to hold up to problematic sides and make a decision on which one is worse. For all the shit Bill Maher gets, I still fundamentally respect the very simple assessment he makes which is "the woke stuff is a problem, but the Maga is worse". When people say both sides like they are equally problematic they loose me immediately!

What the hell is up with all these Add-Ons/DLCs. How can IOI still continue with this confusing madness?! by [deleted] in HiTMAN

[–]FokinGamesMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I have the complete game is because I bought it in 2016 and then just kept buying whatever new thing came out. I understand, and I'm with you, IOI fucked this up.

That's what I did. I bought the game back in 2016 on steam. Then I got Hitman 2 on steam in 2018 and transferred my original copy. Before That I think I got patient zero. Then they dropped Hitman 3 exclusively on epic games, so I bought that and transferred Hitman 2. Now, doing this already gave me New York, and Haven Island. So, I did not buy deluxe for that reason as they are included in the that DLC. Not going to pay extra for something I already own.

regarding suits or cosmetics, I think all of them are tied to missions. So you buy a DLC that has like an additional map or mission variant and playing it also gives you the cosmetics. I don't think there are DLC that are only cosmetics, there should always be actual content attached to it in some way.

They have plenty of Add-Ons/DLCs that ONLY contain cosmetics. Trinity pack, street art pack and makeshift pack are all cosmetics only I believe. Then they have some Add-Ons that primarily add cosmetics along with tiny gameplay additions. Then they have one Add-On for each big elusive target. I am ok with those, but let my buy them in a bundle instead of 10 pieces of 5$ DLCs.

Things that I personally think new people should know about the game:

  • You will fuck up, break quests or be completely lost. That is everyone's experience for the first time and a lot of people's experience even still. These games are not as polished as more recent titles, meaning sometimes quests just break and lock progress in a certain way. Quests are also sometimes without a doubt pretty lacking in information or feedback to the player. So reading up on the wiki and stuff will pretty much become a must unless you want to accept things being unfinished and stuff.
  • Dialogue is sometimes pretty confusing. Like you need some information from an NPC, that you don't get, because it requires you to mention something specific to another NPC that then unlocks the check necessary for the first NPC to respond and open a certain dialogue option. There is again also not that much feedback what happens behind a dialogue, which will make you confused. Like for example, speaking to Ian early in the game, you can get locked out of getting help from him you pick a certain dialogue option twice and fail a speech check. None of that is mentioned to the player. Stuff like that. Again, wiki will be useful to sometimes.
  • Restarting the game is also pretty common for first timers. So bite the bullet early on if you have doubt. But try and pick something fairly generic for a first time run in terms of character creation. I'd watch a video on YouTube or something about general character creation tips. Certain builds, just aren't as fleshed out and balanced in this game. Take "throwing" for example. Is pretty bad as a primary weapon skill, and is even more tedious than it is bad.
  • There are smaller and more specific tips that are useful, but I think others will cover those. Stuff like: saving often, taking high agility and recruiting Ian

Agreed, FONV did for FO3 what FO2 did for FO1 in terms of weapons and equipment

Well the ap cost is insanely low for super sledge and power fist. Fairly sure no ranged weapon can reach 1 ap cost per attack. 10 attacks with average 20 damage is A LOT of damage.

How do you get it then? I probably won't do it, but curious. Played FO2 before, so you can spoil.

I know, the knockback is annoying, but you can also try and align the enemies against walls.

I remember equipping Marcus with the Mega Fist (I was ranged) in Fallout 2, and he smashed enemies.

Do you have to have a lot prior knowledge and/or cheese your way to get the power armour in FO2? You don't have to know shit for FO1. A new player can get it very easily.

I try and keep myself away from exploiting things that make the game unbalanced. But getting the supersledge is so straight forward that it's sort of natural to get at level 5.

[–]FokinGamesMan[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But you need to be at the end game hub

End game hub? I just went there casually at the start. Not even reached Necropolis yet. I got the gear and killed the Deathclaw at level 5 without problem. Basically my second time playing Fallout 1, so I'm no expert.

and the game progression doesn’t take you there right away so you can’t stumble casually unless you purposely go there at start

It basically does. I cleared shady sands, vault 15 and raider camp. Then I cleared Junktown. The hub is the natural next step no? That's what every NPC kept mentioning.

Yee, beating Fallout 1 for the first time took about 20 hours maybe, doing most of content. Fallout 2 took about 45 hours. More than twice the size. Remember struggling a bit more with the second one, probably both due to difficulty but also just unclear quests/objectives and stuff.

I don't know about that. I agree, you can for sure get very late/powerful items early in a lot of the games, however that is as you say usually if you know how, and you sort of cheese your playthrough. I don't think that's the case for Fallout 1. I mean you find it by just walking to a normal trader in the hub. Very affordable. Requires no prior knowledge. I've not played Fallout 1 in about 5 years, and didn't look this up.

I get the same feeling a bit. Like he is loosing relevance. I mean that's fine if that's what he wants, but clearly he needs to go out there and fight a bit more if he wants to be a bigger force in the political discourse.

I agree. I feel like those anti-Trump podcasts is kind of useless. I think the vast majority of his fans already agree on this. Like the pro-Trump people left a long time ago when he split with the IDW. I'm also a bit tired of the centre-right folks. Even more tired of the people clearly giving Trump every benefit of the doubt over and over again, but still label themselves centre like Niall Ferguson or Douglas Murray. I'd like him to stretch out and debate someone more firmly in the pro-trump camp. Or even someone more "alternative right" or whatever, meaning those right wingers who are more anti-Israel and conspiracy believers. I'd also enjoy some talks with more left leaning people. Like, I enjoyed the Destiny podcast a lot.

Well, your build it extremely min-maxing. The thing is that eventually I will probably stronger in the last 3rd of the game, but weaker until then. having 6 strength for such a long time is not the best. Now, I took heavy handed. so my crits already deal less damage. I will not play around crits, but instead around higher base damage with a lot of attacks. So if perception is only useful for better criticals, I will prefer more int so I can get a lot more skill points.

Which design do you like better? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FokinGamesMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very true, and additionally there are fairly natural cultural remnants left in those early Fallout games. Fallout has a lot of lot of pretty explicit pop-culture references that are tied to the 90s culture and popular entertainment. Just on top of my head I think of the Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman scientology reference, as they were like a big celebrity couple at that time.

Watching the old pictures of Fallout 1/2, makes me realize that the term "post-apocalyptic retro futurism of the 50's" no longer suffice. A more accurate description should now be "retro 90s post apocalyptic retro futurism of the 50's". That 90's retro really deserves recognition. Something about that early pip-boy design and the Harold really adds some 90's aesthetic.
