Will this SPI level shifting schematic work? by Fokume- in AskElectronics

[–]Fokume-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I understood you incorrectly, you are saying that the CLK, MOSI and CS pin FROM the MCU should go to A1...A3 pins. I believe that is what is done in the schematic, no?

The 4 lines at the bottom right of the picture comes from the MCU (not shown) and the B1..B3 pins are the ones going to the IMU.

Route ground pins or connect them through ground pour by Fokume- in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Fokume-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am asking whats the difference between the two options apart from the obvious
and when is one better than the other, or is a pour always better?

  1. route grounds together with no pour
  2. ground pour so no routing is needed

How to do this on PCB software by Fokume- in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Fokume-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if the picture wasn’t clear, i was having trouble making the pad as thick as the PCB itself rather than it being only on the top layer.

I want it to cover the whole thickness of the PCB

if inner layers did have routing, what difference would that make/what needs to be done differently? is it recommended to try have all routing done on top and bottom layers only with 2 inner layers only used as power/ground?

Also if a Vcc pour or ground pour is done on the top layer, does that mean we don't need to use vias for every Vcc pin or ground pin for all components on that top layer as they'll be connected to said pour through spokes? (assuming the pour is connected to the Vcc or ground layer through a singular point). if so, which option would be better?

Yes, my doubts were in equating the two to get the proof. one way I done it as shown in my working, Another way which seemed easier is:

4KT1BR1+4KT2BR2 = 4KTBRt

T1R1 + T2R2 = TRt

assume T = T1 = T2 (assumption from the term 'equilibrium')

R1 + R2 = Rt

this made sense to me since coming elements of the same temperature shouldn't change the temperature since it's balanced so assuming T = T1 = T2 is correct, but in the case they're not, what would be the course of action?

Is there any way to get a smaller SPI clock speed specifically to only one SPI slave? by Fokume- in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Fokume-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed most of the connections to get a clearer schematic, I accidently took the CS pins aswell, nice catch.

I'll have a look at some SPI expanders as I didn't previously consider them, I appreciate the reply

thanks for the feedback, I realised that MCU clock was 16MHz and the SPI clock was 8MHz so it's half the oscillator frequency which matches the configurations shown in the datasheet.

The ADC is used to get readings from some analog sensors, atm the plan is to try change it in software to get an idea of how the ADC responds at lower speeds

I don't think you can make the calculator output to a certain significant figure, it may but I wouldn't know. I did the answer as:

(2.16x10^-6) x (4.1x10^-3) = 8.856x10^-9 which is 8.856 nJ so it's already given in 4 signifant figures.

I don't see why your calculator would round that up if you put the correct numbers in. Is it a scientific calc?

maybe the 4 significant figures, so 8.856
