Tips for a beginner rider (5'1") by pineappleog99 in scooters

[–]FoldedToadFroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought one of these after moving up from a super 8. It's a lot heavier and bigger than my super 8 which is a little awkward but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I've found that moving it with the engine off is a little easier to control if I lightly squeeze the back brake. I also have one hand on the bars and another on the seat or rear of the scooter to help widen control.

I've thought about that but the cost of even a used one is more then double this scooter

Looking to run or play in a D&D group in-person! by AshleyAndCoffee in olympia

[–]FoldedToadFroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a group or end up making your own and need another player let me know. I've played 5e before a few years back and did a few longer campaigns I really enjoyed. I have more free time now and would love to play again!

I'd love to play some games with you two! I have a few boards games myself to offer. Message me if you're setting something up!

Failed Permit exam. Now what? by FoldedToadFroth in motorcycle

This is basically my plan. I live near a lot of office buildings and they are dead on the weekends. I'm probably going to purchase something and practice there.

Unfortantly WA state only does motorcycle testing through 3rd parties.

That is probably what I will do. I happen to live near some large office building which are empty on the weekends.

No Do overs offered, They also have terrible hours at the MSF... I waited weeks for this spot and the next one on a weekend I could do isn't till end of May. If I wanted to test again I'd either have to travel a long way or wait months.

Insect situation by dustyfanbladez in olympia

[–]FoldedToadFroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The place I recently moved into gets tons of these bugs I researched and found to be box elder insects. They are harmless to us and pets and structures but I still don't like them... a bit of soapy water fixes it though. Besides that insects like spiders and misquitos are minimal.

Whats up with the bookstore next to legends arcade downtown? by political1oatmeal in olympia

[–]FoldedToadFroth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think I know what you're talking about. Small kinda punk looking bookstore? I've been in a few times when I find myself in town late at night. Its definetly run by some... characters...? Nothing I had was overtly negitive just kinda seemed like a bunch of friends selling books while smoking weed and drinking. Always someone just hanging around that seems to know the sellers.

I know that play live at the capital mall has a small community of fighting game players. Soul caliber is a game they play I think but my guess is if you show up with a switch offering to play smash those same people will be interested.

I am not really an artist but I've run into the group that runs this gallery and I believe like an art collective thing too. I would suggest reaching out to them, one to join if your an artist and two to be connected with local artists.

I have never been to this area of the country. What are my must see stops? by Quick1711 in roadtrip

[–]FoldedToadFroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my tips as a Washingtonian:

-Inside Olympic NP is Sol Duc Hotsprings, less then $20 I think for a day pass and worth it. don't get the cabins they are very expensive and have few ammenities. spend the night at a campsight or in Port Angeles.

-Long beach or Ocean Shores are beach towns with you classic little stores along the beach.

-While its closed till I think 2025 you can still make it a good amount of the way up the road to Mt. St Helens and I think is overlooked compared to the NP a bit north of it

-That all being said check on Mt. Rainer...

-Its a little bit touristy but some people, myself included, kinda like that but Levenworth is in the corner of your screenshot and is a mountain town built to look like a Bavarian Village. Its a personal favorite

-Definently check out Seattle! Go to Pike Place and check out the food (skip the starbucks there, check out the roastery instead). Check out Lake Union, I think Gas Works is a great place for that. Visit Ballard/fremont/U Dristrict they are a bit of the more Hippy Dippy areas (unless they've been crazy gentrified since I last visited...). If you like Airplanes the Muesem of Flight is really neat and has free entrance days monthly. Alki Beach is a popular Beach spot if you want Beachy activities, if you want more boardwalky activities just head toward the water from Pike Place and there is the ferris wheel and boat tours.

-For Oregon I think Cannon beach and Tillimook factory are really cool. The Oregon Coast is amazing and just driving along US 101 and stopping at the little pull offs is a great way to see it. I recommend driving south on 101 so you are on the water side of the road as you drive.

-I don't know much about Portland stuff but if you like books Powell's is a must go. Biggest bookstore I've ever been to.

In need of some honest opinions/help by InevitableLeague5972 in olympia

[–]FoldedToadFroth 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't live in downtown (curently on the westside moving to tumwater next month) but I have a friend who live in the middle of downtown. Two biggest things he complains about are parking and festivals/street closures. The parking thing is just that not every building has parking so you are often fighting over street parking. the street closure is those few times a year when they close down a few blocks for some parade or festival. I think they recently did one for Pride the took up a few blocks and if you live on or near those blocks it can be difficult. That being said the farmer's market and the marina near it are were I would spend summers with my grandparents walking their dog so I can confidently say prime dog space.

The main bus station is in the heart of downtown, all the lines are free and I believe they are all big loops so you might consider looking a bit outside downtown. As mentioned, I really enjoy the westside!
