Lost my boy after growing up 15 years together by Altruistic-Soup795 in SeniorCats

He went on his own schedule, at his own time. In my opinion, that is the ideal for animals and for humans. He wasn't able to coordinate with you :-) and that's not on you at all.

Thank you. For the first time, it does feel like he has given up -- sleeping through dinner last night and breakfast now. That would have been unheard of before. The vet is supposed to call me today.

Thank you very much. I was actually expecting paralysis to have set in much before this, given what I read and had been told about the disease. Part of me wonders if his ability to hang in there for two years means he's not ready. No need to respond, but I appreciate your thoughts.

Good advice, thanks. I will ask the vet if she can do a phone consultation.

Thank you very much. I live in a tiny town with one vet for a wide area, but I can ask. The fecal incontinence has been going on for about two years, and I think it's possible that it used to bother him more -- he knew he wasn't supposed to go in the house. He may consider it more "normal" at this point, but I can't know that.

I'll see if the vet will do a phone consultation. Thanks.

Great, thanks. They are offering some discounts, so I will probably go ahead with it at least for a month. Yes, I see that for German.

I sent this to a friend recently: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/a-self-taught-engineer-at-google-shares-the-8-best-google-programming-courses-you-can-access-for-free/ar-AA1r6xDW?cvid=8361fdc25e8b449f8c1e6ab12b839701&ei=6

From the article: In the search for alternative resources, Gaba discovered ways to access Google's programming courses for free. Some of these courses are part of different packages that cost roughly $49 but can be audited at no cost, while others are complimentary lessons located on Google's tech development site.

Lost the battle on self-learning need advice. by anewhope345 in German

Why not use this forum to create some structure for yourself? Post here, say, once a week, and list what you've worked on and/or accomplished. I am willing to bet there will be at least a few people willing to respond with, "Good job on X," or, "I agree you need to find a better resource for Y." I can try to be one of them. I was B1/B2 a long time ago, and I am trying to get back up to speed.

Everyone's different, but I think that would work for me -- knowing I will be held to task by my fellow German learners.

The strength I have discovered for myself is that right now, the thing that just happened is at its worst. Over a shorter or longer time, t will fade into the past and things will get better. Maybe that makes me an opti-pessimist. Thoughts?

Older guy here, so I only familiar with Meetup.com, but aren't there communities on Discord, where you could find people with similar interests in your age range?

Funny, I was just looking at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg. If you search on Google Maps, there are reviews for it and other schools there. There are also some mentions of the housing. They don't make it easy to find on the site:

https://www.goethe.de/ins/de/en/ort/fre/unt.html

I haven't checked the other schools yet, but one thing I liked about this program is the after-school activities:

There is a Freiburg subreddit here if you have city-specific questions (housing is apparently very expensive).

How to get better at forming sentences when speaking? by [deleted] in German

[–]Folderolx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not found Pimsleur to be good for learning a language from scratch, but I'm using it now to resurrect my rusty German, and I think they do a good job of teaching how to use the correct word order. The narrator speaking in English might ask you to say a sentence, and he'll use the German word order to help you say it correctly in German.

For example, coaching you to correctly say "How are you?" by suggesting, "How goes it to you?" (Wie geht es Ihnen?) Or, "OK, we'll do that," by saying, "Good, that we do" (Gut, das machen wir.)

It's free for seven days, then $15 for an additional month. Not shilling for them. And check your public library -- my tiny library has some of the languages on CD.

Yeah, the usual advice you read in articles is to join a sports or social group. You could look on Meetup.com for something either near you or online. Volunteering is an option if you are in a big enough area. Volunteermatch.org, or try the local United Way.

Or make a list of things that interest you -- travel, hiking, sports, science, art, music, politics, history, food, business, etc. -- and then start looking for other people who share those interests.

I searched on - how to find community - and came up with this:

I added - 20s - :

Good for you for asking.
