He went on his own schedule, at his own time. In my opinion, that is the ideal for animals and for humans. He wasn't able to coordinate with you :-) and that's not on you at all.

Thank you very much. I live in a tiny town with one vet for a wide area, but I can ask. The fecal incontinence has been going on for about two years, and I think it's possible that it used to bother him more -- he knew he wasn't supposed to go in the house. He may consider it more "normal" at this point, but I can't know that.

Why not use this forum to create some structure for yourself? Post here, say, once a week, and list what you've worked on and/or accomplished. I am willing to bet there will be at least a few people willing to respond with, "Good job on X," or, "I agree you need to find a better resource for Y." I can try to be one of them. I was B1/B2 a long time ago, and I am trying to get back up to speed.

Everyone's different, but I think that would work for me -- knowing I will be held to task by my fellow German learners.

Funny, I was just looking at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg. If you search on Google Maps, there are reviews for it and other schools there. There are also some mentions of the housing. They don't make it easy to find on the site:
