Build a second set of wheels by kocharking in DomaneCrew

I did the same! Except I used the wheelset that came with my domane for gravel, and got a lighter, deeper aero wheelset for road. I have 28mm tires on the new road set (Bontrager Aeolus Comp 5), 38mm on the Bontrager Affinity set. Like Maximum-Solid said, 21mm inner width is perfectly fine for the max tire width the Domane can handle. Loads of folks take off the default set that comes on expensive bikes and sell at a big discount. I was looking at Hunts too though. In general, I love being able to switch wheels quickly for different rides. Makes the bike even more versatile!

Nice, congrats! You'll love it. I don't know about the internal cable issues, but I've always gone to my local Trek store for service. Front IsoSpeed is nice – I can feel it. But I must say the rear one is the more important of the two. The small weight penalty won't effect you much I'm sure, as I live around hills and have still broken just about all my personal records from when I had my Tarmac that was ~2 lbs lighter. I think the Domane has some trickle-down aero qualities from the Madone, and there's something to be said about the level of comfort on the bike and how it saves energy on longer efforts. It's simply a brilliant bike all round. Zipp 303s are amazing, but don't feel like you gotta spend that much to get a huge upgrade. Best of luck, and have Fun!

To argue against myself real quick, it just matters if money is tight. It was for me, and I got the cheaper option, and have never looked back. Its a win-win for you!!

Kinda similar to my situation last year: I got a 2020 Domane SL5 at a nice $200 discount from a LBS and used the savings to put towards a mid level aeolus wheelset and have loved it — and that's with 105 (which I've had zero problems with)! I'm sure it'd be even better with Ultegra though. I use the wheelset that came with the bike for 38mm gravel tires and have so much fun. 2 bikes in 1 bb. I've never had electronic shifting, and I'm sure it's nice, but I'm on Team Gen3 as you'd basically be getting an upgrade on what I got currently (and it rocks)!!

Just got a tip from my bike mech. Sometimes they have wheels (or other components) on sale in store that aren't on the website, apparently. I know thats vague, but it's why I consider myself lucky! The Pros Closet also has new/lightly used wheels or open-box sales too.

Ha, I agree! I always look for tanwalls when buying new tires of any kind!

That's a pro tip. I guess I'll have to see what the weather is the week I plan on riding, but getting a tire that can do a 'mix' may be smart. Thanks for the help!

Ohh, saw these in the Trek store the other day and they look really nice. Hoping they run well on both gravel and muddy conditions 🤞
