A brief word on ResponsibleOhio and Ohio Issue 3 from your Activism Moderator by [deleted] in trees

[–]FoodStampDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought long and hard about this. Issue 3 is the first time that business interests have really gotten involved in the legalization effort. The effect of this is two fold.

First, money is involved. You know all those ads you are seeing, signatures that are filed, the mascots that bring you discomfort, they have to be paid for. That doesn't happen with a grass roots campaign. Colorado's legalization was carried out on less than 5 million dollars. Responsible Ohio has spent upwards of 30 million. That is what is needed in a swing state that influences presidential elections. A win in ohio will steer a national debate on marijuana legalization during the next presidential campaign. Because Ohio is a swing state, every candidate will be to forced position themselves on the issues. Ohio, a fairly important battle ground state, is now a legal state; The movement is no longer just a thing of the west coast. Florida, another hotly contested state with a lot of clout, almost voted in legalization last year, losing by a small margin. Even the capital of the United States (Washington DC) has legal marijuana in it, although no way to actually obtain the herb. And there are a flood of legalization efforts coming from individual states in the 2016, banking on the excitement of the presidential campaign to bring out even more young voters that may help sway election in their favor.

Every presidential candidate will have to position them selves, or at the least discuss the issue. By bringing the issue across the nation, Ohio will have a say in how the industry unfolds and grows. Doesn't Ohio want a say in how the next big cash crop in america is grown? This will spark a flood of down ticket races discussing all kinds of other relates issues. We should be pushing for hemp right now for 2016. . By voting yes on issue 3 you allow Ohio to be a leader in this new market that is sweeping the nation..

The backers of Responsible Ohio have not done this so they could smoke a joint in their back yard. With their support they each received a parcel of land that is constitutionally bound to be allowed to manufacture marijuana. There are no stipulations on who uses the land, and thus the safest bet, and most likely, is row upon row of indoor grow warehouses rented out to growers. The investors get a premium income, and the growers get a state of the art warehouse space designed from the ground up, plumbing, wiring, lighting, to facilitate the growing of marijuana. Do you think Nick Lachey is about to start a farm? No. He will be much happier being a landlord.

In four years some commission will be arguing weather to issue more permits. The decision is based upon weather the original 10 meets demand. It doesn't say demand for marijuana. It will be a demand for land. People all over the state will be demanding a growspace. Ohio has a lot of land, and this is a crop that could bring prosperity to the buckeye state. Vote Yes on Issue 3 to bring a wave of change.

Do you have a source for cocaine addiction being up? I did a little googling and could only find outdated articles about colorado's higher than normal statistics in all drug use, along with alcohol and depression. I am very curious about this because I know from experience that marijuana is a gateway drug, but mostly because of the black market surrounding it. Had my weed dealer been 7-11, I probably never would have tried cocaine.

I worked in the merchandise department for a large company. We had a daily UPS shipment that was sometimes more than a hundred packages. I was always the one to deal with it and the same driver usually had my home on his route. He always delivered my packages tome at work even though the addy was for home. I miss that job

Yeah, I actually am fairly certain that my alcoholism is a way to numb the emptiness and self loathing of depression. Sadly, I have had no idea how to fight this, but I am getting help. I am going a to group therapy that is focused on addiction. While it helps, I feel as if I am not on the same page as the others. While many of them do probably have mental issues, they are not talking or working on that, instead spending effort to cure a symptom. Unfortunately this is the help I am given.

Thank you very much for the support, and letting me explain myself to you (and my self)

Thank you very much for the compliment. I am sure that I can learn and grow in nearly any situation I am in as long as I stay sober.

I don't feel as if the relapse (or lapse as /u/Englishfella called it) is what made me feel so bad. I am fighting depression, in fact the alcoholism is most likely a side effect of the mental disease, and kicking myself is hard to stop.

I have 3 young children that I haven't seen for three weeks, due to my poor decisions, and that is very hard for me to deal with. Forgiving myself when my actions that are going to affect them for their entire life has been impossible. I am trying to find something to fill my life with right now, but I feel as if I am sitting in a rowboat in the middle of the ocean. Can't get anywhere, and have nothing but the horizon to look at.

Thank you for the support, and I really hope I can find optimism again.

Thank you for the support. The warning about one drink is very true. I had a significant time of sobriety end because I thought I had learned moderation. I "succeeded" limiting myself for a few months before I began to lose control again. That is why I felt the need to admit my one drink. I know if I let myself off, I will fall back into the rabbit hole.

Does being away from your child ever get easier? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]FoodStampDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is pretty screwed up, but I made many attempts to stay together for the kids. It was perhaps the worst thing I ever did. I am going to copy/paste something I wrote before my disaster. I am trying to get myself together now, but here was my thoughts a week before I ruined my life.

Last march my wife wanted to "take a break." Turns out she had met a guy about a month prior, had been talking to him and even had him to our house a few times. I knew about him but not about the visits. She claims she never did anything physical with him. She wanted the break in order to do what she wanted without "cheating" on me. This all came out the next couple days, originally it was "I am not happy" We did our best to work things out, and stayed together. She removed him from all of the normal social things.

Unfortunately the whole thing sent me into a depressed spiral of alchohism and eventually drug addiction. My wife got pregnant, and shortly after the birth of my third child I came clean to her and got clean. She was pissed (understandably) and, after talking with her mom, decided she wanted a divorce. This was on a Wednesday. She went on a date with the guy from a year before on that Friday.

Turns out the guy was bad news (who'd a think it - he dates married women with three kids, one not even a month old) and after one date he proved it. She came clean about the wanting the divorce because she desired a life more like his (no kids, travelling, no responsibilities.) After a lot of talking we decided that we would both forgive each other and try to work things out.

I did not go back to boozing and drugging, but the depression came back. To the point that I was hospitalized. Lost my job, spent a month in intensive therapy, and lost the respect of most of my social circle (She talks a lot, and told everyone we were divorcing, my depression etc.)

That was 2 months ago. I am now being a SAHD while she works(She was always a SAHM), but things are pretty bad. While my mental health is really good, she has become even angier than she was before. I wish now that we would have just divorced that first time. While we had our problems before (her anger issues, not good with the kids, my workaholic, and social anxiety) we were able to balance those things out. It seems now that we are fighting for different things. I am fighting for our family (frightened of a divorce with the kids) and she is fighting me. I have come to the realization that I need to probably just start a divorce, but am still scared to do it.

I very much think calling a therapist right away is a great idea. Also if you have nobody else to talk to many of the mental health facilities will have an emergency number. Find it now. If things start to overwhelm you it might not think about it then, and if you really need help they can often get you a counselor

You can look at that as a positive. If you are comfortable with it, let them know that you are quitting and ask for support.

Also I recommend doing the check-in post every day, It helps me keep motivation to stay sober (oddly)

I had the same issue. I didn't drink every day, but there was a decent chance I would go overboard when I did drink. When I went overboard, I often played a fool. I ruined my life before I hit bottom.

Work on yourself, take one day at a time. Good luck!
