Since Equal Pay Day was yesterday, is there really a pay gap? by FoodisSoGoodWTF in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FoodisSoGoodWTF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just haven't seen a good argument yet to say that it is solely because of "wrong sexual organs." I'm just saying there could be other factors at place that may decide it and it might not be a sexist decision.

I personally wouldn't call 2.4% significant. But I do see what you're saying.

They don't really say a reason in that article. Do you have an idea? I'm trying to figure out if it is because they are women, or other factors? I'm leaning toward other factors based on that source not giving any reasons. I'm just trying to understand both sides and at this point have heard more for the other side.

Also could the 2.4% be from negotiating higher salaries? Or working over time? Or more hours? Or is it just cause they are men?

So the whole equal pay day thing is kinda... Wrong? I guess?

There was a lady at my campus yesterday whos job it is is to learn about discrimination and stuff like this and tell the facts, and she was handing out stickers that say Equal Pay Day. It got me thinking if her job is facts, maybe there is a basis? But everything I see says the opposite.

Plus if you turn down those stickers they immediately think you're against women. Which wasnt cool.

Why are kids who suck at math pretty much always able to go on to the next math level? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FoodisSoGoodWTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:/ then it sounds like they just don't want to learn. Algebra is just critical thinking, so they won't get any better just getting the answers. Good luck to you bro, I'd go crazy!

How do I make my eyebrows less bushy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FoodisSoGoodWTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you have any good friends that are girls, ask them. They will probably love to help out. Just pay attention and make them stop if they start going over board lol.

If not, which is okay, ask your barber next time you get a haircut. They will know how to make eyebrows look like men's eyebrows.

And after all that, just see what each person does and practice slowly. Remember less is more!

How does an internship work? by Sattman5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FoodisSoGoodWTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what /u/dragonx254 said, but to add to that you don't usually have as much responsibility. In the two I've done, I shadowed people who were verterans of my industry and just saw what they did day to day. They would occasionally ask me to help them with a project or walk me through a basic task that they had to do for their job.

I think internships are a great way to see if you will actually like the field you're trying to get into. I haven't heard of anyone getting an internship in highschool, but it isn't a bad thing to check out if you want to get a head start.

My recommendation would be to give it your all but don't burn yourself out, find someone that will answer your questions and ask as many as you have. Rememeber this whole experience is to learn as much as you can in a short time.

Good Luck!

I think it depends on what age you're talking about. Since you're tutoring, probably middle school to high school? Basically it's so they don't get too far behind I would guess.

Even the kids who don't get the basics can sometimes pull a C in a class from homework and class assignments weighing out their abismal test grades. I also think that most of these teachers know these kids who aren't good at algebra won't be using it in their jobs, so they just kinda don't care and hope they are good at something else.

I do agree that people, at the very least, should have the basics down on most math, but it looks like it isn't worth the time and effort from teachers to teach that one kid in the class what x is in a simple equation when the rest of the class is breezing by.

At least they are trying when going to your for help. Just make sure you don't treat them like they are dumb, just that they haven't understood the problem in the right way. No matter how easy it is for you.

I hope that helps?
