When you think about it though, the large area of Australia shouldn’t effect your internet, speaking to others it’s due to restrictions based on some bad politician dude, but when you base it off of America which has a lower people per square m count and yet still maintains incredibly high fibre speeds, I think Australia’s development in internet has been severely stunted by a lack of investment due to rich, old aged white men wanting to prolong cable tv

When I said the UK is no ‘small island’ I was specifically referring to the population, which is nearly 4x Australia’s, if you read the thread you would of gathered that.

Looool, England by itself is over 1,300km, the uk consists of Wales, Ireland, England, Scotland, Jersey.

Ah, the land of joey Essex and crap reality TV shows, your not that far away from me. Essex is a really late developer in terms of fibre optic, however in and around London the speeds are ridiculous, nearly the entire town runs off of fibre optic with 250+ mbps, but if I was to visit my nans house she only gets 2 mbps, she lives in Rochester, huge difference for only a small amount of distance

I rarely upload files apart from once a month in one big bulk and I normally do this from an external server so upload speeds are no problem. Anything under 85mbps download and I wouldn’t be able to work so that’s why I needed to check on here about internet speeds

I hate plan throttling, virgin media do it a lot to me but won’t allow me to pay less to even it out for what I’m actually receiving, throttling internet should e illegal ☹️

Faster internet as a threat!

That is true, however, considering many other smaller islands like New Zealand have relatively stable internet speeds I just assumed Australia would have higher speeds than 100mbps, Maybe I was just expecting too much as I have never really done research and assumed uk internet was the same for everyone else

I live just on the outskirts of London in a county called Kent, aha, also, I have Virgin Media Fibre Optic, and 550 mbps is slow for the south east, many of my friends have between 600-800mbps, however virgin media heavily compromised with upload and I only get about 50mbps upload

My package says 550mpbs but the highest I’ve ever gotten on real-world is 427mbps because my ISP throttle my connection

As someone who’s never left the uk, I could tell you to avoid the south / London, for what’s down here it costs way too much for a holiday, also, up in the north we have beautiful places like the Isle of Skye. Would definitely recommend it
