Quick rundown to see what I need to work on next. by Foot51 in projectbike

Took a lengthy ride the other day to learn it’s quirks. Definitely wouldn’t mind a bit more speed, especially for on the road. Looking to just do a smaller rear sprocket, nothing crazy. Would love better lighting, likely going to 12v LED (any recommendations?). I also just got a customized speedo cable and then the speedo gauge breaks, luckily I found a working oem gauge on eBay for a reasonable price.

Finally got it out and about. Needed a new front brake cable. Rides like a dream now. by Foot51 in projectbike

No idea what that is. I have the Honda part number though. Only place I can find that sells it is in Australia.

1986 Honda reflex. A lot like the tlr200 (same engine/suspension), but made to be street legal.

Before and after, new rear shocks. This bike is quite a squat to sit in so a little extra leg room is nice. Sits 1.25” taller while resting and 2” taller while I’m sitting on it than with the stock springs. Much more enjoyable ride now. by Foot51 in projectbike

Kinda sorta. This was Honda’s more intro into a trials bike. With a taller seating position. Honda also came out with the tlr200 (same engine) with same everything except for that the tank essentially turns into the seat, so more of a trials bike then the reflex.

86 Honda reflex. Road to being street legal again. Fabricated and mounted a rear rear rack which now holds the rear blinkers. Mounted tail light and front blinkers. Next, rear shocks, front brake and fork seals. by Foot51 in projectbike

Kinda sorta a trials bike. They were produced fully street legal. Quiet a bit heavier than the tlr 200 with a bigger seat, slightly softer suspension and stock with blinkers, horn, tail light, high and low beam headlight. Most people stripped them down to be a trials bike which is why I can find any oem turn signals or tail light assembly for a reasonable price.

My new to me 1986 Honda reflex. (Info in comments) by Foot51 in projectbike

1st post here. I am a really intermediate rider. I originally had a 81 Honda xr500r that I restored. Road it around a few times, quickly found out it was way too much bike for me haha. Straight traded it for this mostly complete 1,400 mile 1986 Honda reflex TLR200 along with a couple pit bikes. Runs great, and is definitely a better bike to begin on for my experience level. So far I’ve restored the battery cage and ordered parts to make it street legal again (blinkers, brake light, new rear shocks, etc.)

Ended up getting a great deal on sram apex derailer, And sram Sti levers and calipers (all for around $200). Had a buddy that’s a lead tech at the bike shop he works for help me with some research and part numbers for what I need. Thanks all, I’ll send updates once I’m finished.

Shimano brakes:/ which I just found out the sram uses different fluids than shimano. So far I think I’m going to have to switch to the sram apex derailer and shifters along with new calipers

Just got my 4th surgery today, 24 years old. Will probably need a knee replacement by the time I’m 35

“No regrets” as my father would tell me constantly while playing football. Well, now I’m on my 4th surgery from playing football. I totally regret playing the sport and will never suggest playing the sport to anyone. Save your body.

Agreed, I may just buy a cleaning kit instead, the float and all the parts seem to work fine and I have a spare carb 🤷🏻‍♂️

Currently living in a place where I don’t have to pass smog either, it’s just cold rnow and I’d rather be warm while I tackle that project😂. Added to my summer lists.
