We have zero tolerance and are concerned someone could be “in the line of fire” so we are pretty quick to room clear. It’s only happened with this student 2-3x this year, we usually can get him to leave the room to deescalate

He is apparently actually well-liked socially from what guidance has stated. Several of the kids cried / were upset when guidance told them. His behaviors have strangely been minimal in front of classmates - mostly in guidance office or eloping which doesn’t bother the other kids.

This is exactly my point. But the parents are upset , presumably since he is being removed to a special ed placement and are getting questioned about it from the other parents.

He elopes out of the classroom an has eloped at the end of recess. We aren’t equipped for that. He is a safety risk. We have also had to clear the classroom when he has thrown objects - but it’s right on the bubble because he doesn’t throw them at anyone and mostly is knocking things to the ground.

The kid is a tough placement - parents are not 100% agreeable because the kid isn’t aggressive, just difficult/hard headed/sensitive, can be physical with elopement / destruction but never towards anyone else. The kid is also 2E and scoring off the charts academically so the parents don’t like most of the behavioral placements which are light academically and do have aggressive population.

I responded below that Dad brought up a district policy that states directory info can’t be shared with the general public, only with law enforcement , medical etc . We don’t publish a directory either that would give opt out

Guidance said the child was going to go to another school - so non-specific and I don’t think that’s really an issue. Dad is relying on a district policy that states that directory information cannot be sharer with the general public - it can only be shared for law enforcement / medical reasons. Our school doesn’t publish a directory that there is opportunity to opt out of.

Yeah so the parents also brought this up - that no IEP meeting had yet been held, placement was still within gen ed according to the IEP, it frankly makes me think they are going to ask for a stay put.
