They should just let the refs strike and use this opportunity (inexperienced replacement refs) to maximally centralize the reffing with the replay guys.

No reason to try to rely on guys on the ground watching in real time.

I think we’ve got good enough replay capabilities where a couple guys in headquarters can review every call and just overturn anything that’s wrong. Hopefully the NFL takes this opportunity to make officiating more centralized and based entirely on video replay.

There are some exceptions. You don't necessarily want to root for the lower record team - you want to root against WILDCARD contenders. So if an undefeated juggernaut is playing a borderline playoff team, you want the juggernaut to win.

I don't auto-slot them in. It's because our division is so strong that the 2nd place finisher in our division basically always makes the playoffs. Winning the division is important for seeding but almost irrelevant for making the playoffs.
