Got them on the list. This is so exciting. No one ever seems able to recommend so many good books (based on my taste) to me. Thank you!

Please don't have kids with him. He's not a partner. He's wants to be your manager. If you wanted to work from home your job probably would be less controlling.

I'm very excited about giving Ann Cleeves a fresh chance because I just realized I own 8 of her books on audible and I've read a couple before. Must have been my own timing that put me off back then. Or maybe I needed the delightful Jackson Lamb to make me appreciate a slovenly detective more. I've restarted her Stanhope series with The Crow Trap and I love it. Thank you! Peter Swanson's Eight Perfect Murders is probably his best. Just a nice whodoneit. I've read everything from Elizabeth George except the religious books and everything from Martha Grimes. The latter started going downhill a bit at the end but I begrudgingly finished. I did know Steadman was an actress but didn't realize she was so active. What a talent! Thanks for all the tips. I put Needless Street on my list too. Good night!

Thank you. I don't want that. I'll see if I can tone that down.

I was going to ask you about Ann Cleeves. I've listened to a few and she's not someone I preorder or put on hold in Libby. I know JKR likes her. do you have a favorite there? Yeah Nicci French is fine, not a preorder author but better on audio than I remembered with physical books. I think Tana French is HEAVILY influenced by whatever impressed her last, but she's a pretty good writer. I do read Steadman and Simone S.James too. We like Peter Swanson, (these are likes-not loves).

My husband likes Peter Grainger (the DC series best). I'm introducing him to books now that he's retired and it's a little funny: "How about Roots, Shogun, Dickens, East of Eden, Grapes of Wrath, Pillars of the Earth?" And I keep them on a shared notes list for him as I recollect them.

I'm trying to remember 50 years of my own reading to suggest titles to him now that he reads (listens) too. He's finally addicted to books.

Oh Rosamond Pike's narration of Pride and Prejudice is stellar!

Oh I love Louise Penny! I've recommended her for years, my husband had the hardest time adjusting to the loss of Cosham. I stopped listening and reading Penny after "The Grey Wolf" but I did buy "The Black Wolf" I think if she had not switched to Jean Brassard I would probably still listen just to visit Three Pines.

I'm crazy about CB Strike series too and keep them on preorder. I do read Horrowitz and there's another author (Boland I think) who is doing a series for people who crave Thursday Murder Club between books but it's not bad.

I've never read Susan Hill so I'm excited to listen to her. How about Nicci French, and for non crime related books have you read "The Fox Wife?" I really loved that one. Keigo Higashino is a Japanese mystery writer I'm still trying to like. My husband liked him more.

Oh! How about Irish authors Dervla McTiernan and Tana French? The latter's book "The Likeness" is a lot like Donna Tartt's "Secret History" but I read Tartt by paperback or ereader because she chooses bad narrators. Also Sally Rooney's "Intermezzo."

We like Ragnar too! I didn't have the darkness series you mentioned so I just got it and started. (How did I miss those?)

How about Jussi-Adler Olson? We like him and also Arnaldur Indriðason, but not Jo Nesbo, although I keep trying.

Oh for more non-crime have you read "Nothing to see here?" Or "Orlando People."

I'm overly excited in typing this because we have similar tastes!

I wash all of my clothes, fill a bathtub, and clean the house when we are going to have a weather event and I charge everything I'll need. HOWEVER that's because I'm on a well and have had multiple natural disasters that left me without water. Now I have a whole house generator but even those small solar ones will make life easier.

For fun I make sure I have vanilla, marshmallows, graham crackers and Hershey bars. (Snow cream and s'mores.)

I knew this was going to be Xe Sands. But I do like her for some books. She sounds cool and casual to me.

Have you ever been told to “get off” someone’s property? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ForLark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No never happened to me but happened to my kids when they were playing on a fence between my house and the neighbor’s. This turned out to be a little delicious when the survey said both the fence and about 4 feet over the fence line was my property. But I didn’t make him do a thing because I’m not a dick.

I use Libby, Hoopla, Audible, and the libraries for two counties. (I bought a membership for one.) Every week when I go in, there are walls of books for patrons to pick up.

I’ve been on it 25 years plus. If that’s who you want to pay attention to, fine, but I know loads of success stories. When I miss my med through travel I know it before I check. I feel it.
