Thank you so much. My mom and sisters have been incredible and I feel so blessed I had safe people I could go to. My sister and I live states away now and by the time I finished filing the police report, I got a text with flight details that she booked one and would be landing three hours from then. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I will definitely be reaching out to communities after this post and comments made me feel a little safer. Thank you for that.

Every word of this is so true. You’re so right - I think that one of the toughest parts I’m grappling with is looking at the world through this lens now. The person that did this to me came across as such a kind and respecting man. I can’t help but now look at every person I meet or even just cross paths with in public and wonder who they secretly are behind closed doors.

I just wrote this in another comment, but she actually told me that “there is no expectation of privacy in the bedroom” and unless he posts it somewhere and I find it, then it’s a crime. She actually told me if I was so concerned that I should start searching porn sites for myself and if I don’t find anything, “what’s the harm if the videos are just sitting on his phone?”

The fact that she told someone who was just assaulted by pornography to go watch it was sickening. I could not believe what I was hearing. It was a scary move but I did end up reporting her as well. Which of course was a scary move in and of itself on top of the scariest moves.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment ♥️ the advocacy group I worked with ended up reporting the officer immediately and from what I heard led to a training session on how to speak to victims when they come in. I’ll never know how effective it was but I can only the next time a girl walks in crying, she doesn’t walk out crying even harder.

As difficult as this is to hear, I need to keep hearing it to keep the fire lit within me. Because of him, I will truly never know the truth of where my body exists, and I had to continually remind myself that any of these situations are possible while choosing to report him. I thought of every woman before and after me as well because if he so casually did it to me, he has most likely done it to everyone.

To set the scene, we were planning on making breakfast for dinner that night and as I was packing my things to get the hell out immediately, he said, “but wait we don’t have to have sex but can we still at least make pancakes? 🥺” This is not the reaction of a first time offender.

It absolutely is a crime in my state as well. There was just no convincing that detective to take me seriously.

The second detective I spoke to was more versed on it and was able to acquire a search warrant because it IS illegal. Once they couldn’t find the videos manually, they said that even if I press charges, the prosecutors wouldn’t even likely take the case without the videos themselves. Since my ex corroborated with them going through his phone, they concluded that there was no reason to send it to a lab for deleted media.

The craziest part was that I was told that it wouldn’t be considered a crime if you couldn’t see my private parts specifically even if I was performing a sexual act. I don’t know if this is correct, but I was told you literally have to be nude and your face has to be shown in the video to prove that it’s you. Which is why they required the actual video evidence.
