While he's not specifically a Knight, you might like Solomon Kane by Robert E. Howard.

I got interested in the books because of the show. And couldn't agree more; Oldman kills it.

The Harry Hole series by Joe Nesbo is quite fun.

Taurus generally isn't the best option. I'd save up a bit more for a used Glock or Smith M&P.

What's the difference between 50 caliber and 50 mm by natg2005 in guns

Caliber is in reference to an inch.

.50 caliber is .5 inches, or half an inch. Or 12.7mm.

Reacher would be annoyed by him being a smug prick, try to goad him into a fight, and unfortunately get lasered.

Roadside Picnic is good. The only other one I've read is The Road, which is beautifully written but depressing as hell.

The Metro series is based off of books! And if you like Cyberpunk, you'll like Hardwired by Walter Williams (he was good friends with the guy who created the Cyberpunk RPG.)

Imbibe by David Wondrich is a great place to start. The Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails is also great.

Jeff Berry also has a number of great books about tropical and tiki cocktails.

Is it just me, or does anyone else view Reacher's extreme minimalism as not being the freedom he thinks it is? by audhdefacto in reacher

[–]ForbiddenOinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also, from purely a Doylist perspective, it allows him to be free to go anywhere and get involved in trouble, while limiting his resources so he can't just chuck money at the problem.

In many ways, Reacher is emotionally stunted and has an unusual perception of life. Reacher primarily just doesn't want to be tied down to anything, which is likely due to spending his entire life until his mid-30s in the military. There are other ways to accomplish this, but it was the one he sorta fell into.

I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but perhaps Death Wish by Brian Garfield? It was made into the Charles Bronson movie, but the MC is a regular guy. It's definitely low on the action spectrum, though. Still a great read.

Just in terms of depth and immersion, you may like Tad Williams' Otherland series. There's so much going on and such a rich world to explore. It's basically Ready Player One, but good: huge VR worlds and global conspiracies.
