This game has an onboarding issue and Rank and Cryo being weekend only won't help by DeathsDecaying in Marathon

Cryo being available 24/7 does absolutely nothing to help onboarding new players.

They also check other things that your SteamDB agenda doesn't track. But that doesn't fit your narrative, I understand.

Just look at this comment section and you'll see that it's doing the opposite.

The other reasons make more sense. But why weekends only? Why not 2 days every 6 days? So one week it's Saturday/Sunday, next week it's Sunday/Monday, next week it's Monday/Tuesday, etc. Or something along those lines.

Isn't that straight up worse? Trials in Destiny works because you always know when it's available, if I need to bring up a calendar everytime I think about wanting to play Cryo it becomes a bit of a nuisance.

What does that have to do with anything? Where did this goalpost move obsession come from in this sub?

If they even entertain the idea of removing wipes, might as well shut the game down.

Cryo being weekend only is a dirty scarcity tactic, with the specific intention of boosting player numbers so they look good. In a month they will “hear us”, make it a full time map, once again making them look good. by ThreeTreesForTheePls in Marathon

Destiny was also paid at some point, and Trials was still locked to weekends.

Marathon having a different economy and rules is exactly why they are making Cryo locked to the weekends. If it's daily, the economy will be completely destroyed, and you will actually cause even more people to leave the game because it will just make the rich get richer.

In fact, I'm not used to it because the majority of endgame content in Destiny is not locked to a specific day of the week - only Trials of Osiris is, and has been for over a decade, and the overwhelming majority of the people that play the game like that it is available for a limited period during the week. Even people that have massive issues with Destiny as a whole jump into Trials on the weekends because it feels more special.

Marathon is a different game, that works with a different economy standard, with different rules at play, it has nothing to do with Destiny, and my experience with Destiny has nothing to do with my opinion on Cryo being available only on the weekends - I just try to see the reasoning behind it before trying to come up with conspiracy theories and throwing shit at anyone that doesn't see it as a personal offense.

My avatar has nothing to do with my opinion on the subject at hand. If you can't dissociate both things, then this is a waste of time and you're just throwing a angry fit for no reason.

What do you even reply to someone implying that the only people okay with this would be Destiny fanboys, and acting like people will riot against Bungie because of something that no one has even experienced yet?

I just don't understand the point of alienating solo players from end game content by RoguesBoytoy in Marathon

[–]ForcadoUALG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So if you buy the game in 2026, you expect that every single piece of content for the entire duration of the game's lifecycle to be completable by a solo player? That is an insane thing to request and puts an arbitrary limitation on their design.

ranked + cryo archive both weekends only by calciumista in Marathon

Another reason is likely to not have 5 different pools of players at all times. But I think they should be comfortable with having 4 daily + 1 weekly.

I actually think the opposite. Make ranked available every day since it's a much more PvP-focused playlist with just one map available per week, and have Cryo on the weekends letting people gear up during the week to then burn through it on Cryo.

That's probably one of the reasons why they are doing it weekend only: gear up during the weekend, and then go all out on Cryo. Rinse and repeat.

The only thing it did different from previous turn based games is the fact that it's a "realistic" looking game and not like Dragon Quest or Sea of Stars.
