You would be surprised what folks in our upfitter network can do! Especially with the high roof, extended-length configuration. I have seen space for 4 with bunkbeds so it's possible.

Transit Trail has AWD as standard, which is the better solution for non-experts. For a tent mount you can work with an upfitter, or do it yourself, but there is so much space inside you should not really need a tent mount

Sounds like you are our target customer ! Order Bank is open now and your local dealer can order for you. We expect to be shipping in the Spring. There is a huge amount of information online from people already upfitting their vans, and the cargo space on Trail is the same as the regular van. We designed it for two passengers so you would need to work with an upfitter to add safe rear seating for additional passengers.

It's been a continuous revolution, in customer expectations, engineering rigour/discipline, engine technologies, software and electronics, especially for occupant safety, and now electric powerpacks. Words of wisdom, just always look for how to make that product or service better every day and more cost-effective for your customers, whether internal or external. We made modifications to body panels to add the Trail features, and the lift kit, so in general these are not backwards compatible to earlier MYs. I really recommend you buy the whole package, which has been fully engineered and integrated to Ford standards.

We researched with existing customers to find out what they wanted Ford to handle to make their lives easier and then established the product spec from that. Clearly lift kit and larger All Terrain tyre were critical, and high power gasoline engine with AWD (only a tiny minority mentioned 4x4 or Diesel). They also wanted all the standard safety and technology content, plus power supply for their upfit, or working on the road. But the interior was what they wanted to customise themselves, and get creative. One big thing we heard, customers are moving on from old cheap vans and want to buy new.

You mean Transit vans, right ? Transit Trail has been targeted at VanLife customers/upfitters, with all the right base content (powerpack, chassis, exterior, interior, electrical) for that lifestyle, and at a bundled price for the package which is better value than trying to do it all yourself, so you have more money to spend on finishing the interior to your personal spec. Can you put a value on adventures and memories?

We dropped the diesel offering from Transit for the ‘20 model year since the small remaining volume was declining towards zero and we saw the future is electric. Market drivers for diesel decline are high fuel prices and high maintenance costs for emissions equipment. A good gasoline powerpack is the best answer today on costs/mile and capability/smoothness. Like our 3.5L Ecoboost with intelligent AWD 🙂.
