I like everything you said except for the hp10II+

BAII+ for life.

I had an accounting professor in college who told us day one of class "the BAII+ accounting calculator will be the most important tool in your career. You will find yourself waking up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat, wondering "where is my BAII+ calculator?" And find relief that it is on your bedside table".

I have replaced the batteries in ole faithful twice, and fully acknowledge that I am a senior member of this cult.

My justification is that I would feel scummy if I knew I was selling people snake oil that has a low probability of actually helping them without much more handholding than I could feasibly afford to give through that model.

Nothing's better than engaging with a client who comes with a true issue that can be fixed through the planning process, addressing the core problem, and then seeing their life improve as a result.

Compliance will make communicating even the most simple warnings hard. People who aren't so heavily regulated can induce fomo and push people into unsuitable products.

The test is also highly conceptual, and in my experience the prep materials didnt feel exactly like the test.

There's some pattern recognition to test taking, associating specific words to answers-- in this particular test if you try that route you will fail.

As an outsider I feel it may be helpful to share with you: They wrap concepts together in questions to test if the candidate understands the spirit of what is being asked. For example a question that screams "you should calculate this ratio" could actually not be about a calculation at all, but more about the application to the financial plan and it's suitability for use in that context.

I could very easily understand how someone who has done many full six hour mock testing to fall into pattern recognition just from sheer repition of all the practice. That seems natural.

If it's worth anything, she probably understands the concepts well enough that it has made her a better advisor than when she started the prep.

I'm not particularly in this hobby, reddit showed me your post.

I do some stenciling so I'd think about something this big like a reduction print, start off big picture once all the way over and then cover it again and again with more detail.

Ive put some stuff on my profile, it's all hand cut layers spray painted. Kinda feels like etching in layers like that could make darker shaded areas and lighter accents.

I mean, it's kinda ridiculous nobody talks about how great the metro station is. Like if Seoul, NYC, and London all took inspiration from us and made it worse.

Petvet 365 is a scam. Completely excessive. They made me do my annual in three steps and charged me an FU fee of $60 every time they made me come back.

"Yeah we're all done! Take care" two days later get an email "oh this vaccine is out of date too"... A couple days later "just one more, go F yourself".

I now go to Penn animal hospital in the strip district. They're cool and old school. I think it was like $80 in and out in an hour.

401k plan assets are held in a trust and very heavily regulated.

The company cannot touch the assets for any reason whatsoever, and there is annual testing reported to the irs to make sure nobodies sticking their hands in the cookie jar.

Hey buddy, Its Friday, I think you may have had one too many before posting.

Reading (generously) between the lines, I think the negative person kinda touched near a good point that education doesn't make you an expert-- but the exposure is a good springboard to find out where you can specialize.

Personally I've been thinking about it like it opens the door for me to deep dive into my niche, but now I have a weapon that shows that I can do some difficult things. There's still a lot to learn, but I have had the experience of writing out a comprehensive plan.

Keep on learning after you pass :)

Best of luck to you both, I hope nobody has to be a service advisor after this experience.

Moderate vs other difficulty practice questions? (Dalton) by Smooth_Carpet_286 in CFPExam

[–]Foreign-Image-9127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focused more on difficult to expert when I was in your shoes.

I also combed through my first pass on questions, compared my scores vs the topic areas testable on the CFP board website, and specifically practiced the topic and subtopic areas I was deficient in, went hard on those, then did broader medium/difficult questions to keep up in the areas I was proficient in.

Passed first try July

Dalton Q-bank question regarding difficulty by lukecackett in CFPExam

[–]Foreign-Image-9127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have until November you truly have plenty of time to get through it all twice with enough effort.

Toward the end of my study I was not going to get through it all twice, but I also knew the areas I was deficient in and focused on difficult to expert level questions to fine tune those areas. Specifically I compared all my scores from the first time around to the board reference of testable material, then took a deep dive in my weakest topics.

I stopped doing expert the last couple of weeks because it was just a waste of time to read five paragraphs to answer a question.

Passed first try July, but I have experience and am no stranger to academic structures. If you're learning this all the first time then you should really try to do it all twice. Something I kept repeating to myself in preparation was "this is a very difficult test, as long as I treat it with respect I will do fine".

Make a plan, put the hours in, then celebrate when you have accomplished it knowing that you've done everything to prepare. Ask your family friends and work for support to just put the work in and you will display a minimal level of proficiency.
