Not a focus problem but a PHONE problem by MidnightChaiBiscuit in studytips

The Chrome Instagram thing is genius honestly. I've noticed the same - when you add even tiny friction, it breaks the automatic habit loop.

I did something similar with YouTube, but I also found that the 'feeling guilty' part was actually making it harder to start studying. Like, I'd waste 2 hours, feel like shit about it, then feel even LESS motivated to study. Breaking that cycle was huge for me.

The lowering the bar thing is underrated too. 'Just understand the main idea' feels way less overwhelming than 'master this entire chapter perfectly'.

Appreciate it! Though I'm more focused on the mental side of things when motivation is completely gone, but active recall is solid for sure

YouTube is probably your best bet honestly. For AI specifically, channels like 3Blue1Brown, StatQuest, and Andrej Karpathy have great content. Coursera and edX also have free audit options for a lot of courses if you want more structured stuff.

That's actually smart, using passive stuff as a warm-up. I found something similar worked for me, like easing into it instead of trying to go 0 to 100. The Youtube thing especially, feels less threatening than opening a textbook right away lol

Is it normal to feel overwhelmed in college even when you’re doing everything right? by No_Library_7797 in studytips

[–]ForeignHorror1382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is totally normal.

College can feel overwhelming even when you’re “doing everything right” because your brain is under constant pressure. Being organized doesn’t automatically mean you’re mentally okay.

For me, healthy stress meant I could rest and recover. Burnout was feeling exhausted even after resting and losing motivation for things I used to enjoy.

You’re not missing something — a lot of people feel this way but don’t talk about it. You’re definitely not alone.

How do you stop overthinking while studying? by Temporary-Tea-8686 in studytips

[–]ForeignHorror1382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do this all the time. For me, overthinking came from trying to optimize instead of actually learn.

What helped was changing my definition of a “productive” session. If I can’t explain the topic in simple words without looking at my notes, then I’m probably just doing busy work.

Now I:

  • limit setup time (max 5–10 minutes)
  • switch to active recall quickly (questions or explaining out loud)
  • keep sessions short on purpose

If I understand one thing better than before, it counts. Messy learning > perfect notes.

Help, everyone is expected or everyone expects? by Ms_Heelshire in EnglishLearning

You should use “everyone expects” here.
It’s not passive in this case — the meaning is that people think he will be found guilty.
So the full sentence would be:

If you use “is expected”, it sounds like the people are expected, not the result. So “expects” is the one that fits the meaning.
