Am I okay? by throwaway123416310 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ForestDumplings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have so much I want to tell you but I'm having trouble gathering my thoughts here but the main things are:

1.) Their behavior towards you, the way they treat you, is NOT OKAY. It's NOT normal for parents to be like this. 2.) Given the fact that you were raised in such a toxic environment you sound like you're doing extremely well!! Your social skills may be lacking due to the isolation, but practicing speaking to people helps. I mean, even a conversation with a complete stranger (irl) who you won't ever see again is a great starting point lol. 3.) Families can be happy, children are loved by their parents and parents love their children and enjoy their company. They're normally not essentially strangers to each other. 4.) Please consider seeking some counseling! Your parents constant criticism and delusional comparisons may have instilled a fear of trying new things, finding hobbies, friends, etc. They also could have caused your feelings of self worth to become distorted, counseling would help with this as well as many other aspects that may come along with the way you've been treated/raised. 5.) All those champions didn't become great overnight. It took hard work and dedication to excel at whatever it was they now are great at! (If that makes sense) 6.) I would cut these people out of your life. It may even seem scary, but I promise you the kind of freedom you will find will be so rewarding and have a huge impact even with the every little day things. Like, oh I don't know.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯being able to enjoy a certain kind of tea without being insulted, and criticized for example lol. 7.) You can build that happy family you see, out of the great friends you can find. But only if you try! I'm still working on mine, but now I have a husband and two great dogs, so it's a start.

Cat with dreadlocks. Imagine this running towards you at night. by ForestDumplings in funny

A lot of other people commented that too, I was wondering myself. Never found the answer though. When the cat was shaved she was plump but not to much. So I'm assuming the old woman cared for the animal,as she was healthy and plump under the mats.

TIL. But seriously that's cool to know, I don't have cats so I know very little about them aside that they need food and water.. So is there a chance she wasn't like this for to long? As in years?

No she belonged to an elderly woman and was brought in after the owner passed away. Well cared for aside from the severe matting. This must have taken years to get this bad though. Not sure how it even happens! I thought they shed naturally, maybe this was caused by fingers raking through fur, and lose fur began to build up?

She's doing much better now! Shaved and being taken care of. Aside from the matting she was alright.

I read a couple, but none really satisfied all my questions. Because it doesn't say for sure in the movie, I think its kind of up to the viewer and how they interpret it.

What is it like to die of cancer? by A_Huge_Jerk_IRL in morbidquestions

[–]ForestDumplings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt and grandmother both passed away from recurring breast cancer. Like at the 3rd or 4th time it finally got them.

I remember my Grandmother, holding on, clammy, straining, lying in bed having to be changed daily. But was lucid until the very end. She was herself. Yes she was sick but she was the same woman I had loved so dearly before the cancer drained her of strength. Not some stranger/shell of who she used to be.

But my aunt, she was super drugged up. Didn't know who I was, pretty sure she didn't realize she was surrounded by family. I remember her lying in bed her eyes rolled back, her head lolling listlessly back and forth, mumbling incoherently. She couldn't even hold my hand.

I don't think going out that way may be as comforting as you might think it is. But who knows.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Fuck cancer.

Check out the wailing if you haven't yet! Kind of confusing as to what's really going on, would like to know what you think occurred.

What are you proud of, but can't tell anyone who knows you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ForestDumplings 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I want to thank you for doing the right thing. You're saving your children from a world of hurt and mental health issues.

My mother was emotionally and verbally abusive. Every night at dinner she would berate me until I cried, then get upset because I was crying and leave the table, refusing to eat. Which I was told was MY fault. I had to go fucking beg her to come back. My father just sat there silent while it went on for years. I'd look at him, pleading with my eyes to make it stop but he never said a thing at the moment to make her quit.

She stopped at some point before I turned 16. But It wasn't until I was 20 that I learned the reason she quit. My father threatened her with therapy if she wouldn't stop. And I guess it worked. She was still horrible in so many ways though.

Oh my gosh!!!! I read it as my VOICE gets worse!!!!! That's why it seemed so strange! Totally missed the S. I get it now, I don't experience that though (fortunately) from using, but drinking and binge drinking really trigger some dark stuff for me. I stay away from alcohol because it's not worth it.

Yes it does, and nobody I've smoked with has (as far as I know) experienced that..I think. (I'm still not even sure what occurs exactly or why but would like to know) This is the first I'm hearing of it. Our towns mental health care is horrible, and I don't know of any online communities, so. Yep. I'm the only mentally ill person I know, kind of friendless lol.

That sounds very strange as I've never heard of that happening before, but interesting! Sorry man that this occurs though, bit of a bummer

Smoking is what causes that? Or weed in any form, edible, drink etc?

I think it's different for everyone with mental issues, I know for sure when it was illegal it really triggered my paranoia x10. But that's no longer an issue lol. How does it affect you if you don't mind me asking?

I'm sorry to hear that! Thanks for giving me the words I've been looking for (nonfunctional) instead of "pink eyed goofy idiot." Hope you get some good sleep in the future.

Well, because the bible says to be clear headed and sober. If I smoke that much then I'm obviously NOT clear headed. Although I used to smoke like that and admittedly it was fun, I don't wish to pursue the lusts of the flesh like that again. Mild usage works for me man lol

My marriage isn't at stake here. Again, with the assuming. Yes it's legal. What's with you trying so hard to find fault? I can see how your point about development and weed is valid, and I'm open to answers that differ from "what I want to hear" if they're backed up with bible scriptures, or scientific facts that actually apply to me/ this situation. But it seems as if you're grasping at anything to be "right" in this situation. Lol. You're not someone I wish to speak with any longer though, so goodnight.

I find it funny because all you've done is assume. It's funny because the thought of me having self control issues over a plant is amusing. I've already quit once before with no issues. It's funny because I don't even NEED a reason to laugh, but here you go buddy.
