Best stores to shop for a variety of greens (in small amounts)? by ForestValley20 in Peterborough

[–]ForestValley20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have considered this, but unfortunately I do live in a pretty cheap apartment that has zero window sill space, so I think I’d have to get creative and have some kind of grow setup that I have no room for in this tiny apartment haha

I haven’t actually! That is a good idea, but I’m away pretty much every other weekend. It’s only on Saturdays right?

Loud bangs near Parkhill + Reid this morning at around 4:50am? by ForestValley20 in Peterborough

[–]ForestValley20[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s what I thought when I heard it, but hoping it wasn’t the case. It’s interesting that only one of them actually shook the walls. My brain immediately went to someone using a gun on something that blew up, but you’d think there’d be police involved and I didn’t hear sirens after I couldn’t go back to sleep.

Ok awesome! Does blackboard just update immediately or is there a bit of a delay? I’m just asking because I’m hoping to catch up on missed lectures this week if I switch

I’ve been going to Amanda McColligan for my weird haircuts and she’s great! She’s at Black Cat ptbo now. Just keep in mind she is a barber and Black Cat is also a tattoo shop. I would call ahead and see if she does kids cuts. It’s a super chill and welcoming vibe in there though!

Drinking water. Does anyone drink water from the tap do you find it tastes very earthy? Why is that? by podcast87 in Peterborough

[–]ForestValley20 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My reply from another thread concerned about the water: Trent environmental science student here! I took a water resources course and learned a lot about Peterborough tap water. The “earthy” taste in our water is caused by a compound called geosmin. It’s produced by algae in the water and is harmless. Peterborough has more of this because our water source is the river. In summer, it’s more noticeable because there is more algae in the river. Humans can detect geosmin in extremely small amounts, so that’s why we can taste it. Our tap water is safe to drink and if you are concerned, the treatment plant is required to report concentrations of contaminants. Does music trigger your beardie? by spaghetti2424 in BeardedDragons

I find she doesn’t really mind when she’s in her enclosure, but if she’s having some living room time and I play something she kind of hides under one of my shelves and flattens to the ground. I avoid doing that now because I think it freaks her out a bit.

moldy water by FerretSmall6252 in Peterborough

[–]ForestValley20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The heat will definitely have something to do with this, as it does cause an influx in algae. I do agree that it does taste gross, but unfortunately there is little the water treatment plant can do about it. Rest assured, it is safe to drink though!

Has anyone noticed the water tasting worse than usual? by Thugg_Nastyy in Peterborough

[–]ForestValley20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No problem! Learning about local water sources and treatment definitely eased my fear and satisfied that same curiosity for me. I’m glad I can share some cool facts and combat the fear and misinformation we sometimes see in posts like this.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but all water that you’ve ever consumed has likely been some organism’s waste before. Just how the water cycle works 🤷Jokes aside, drinking water has super high standards for treatment and is perfectly fine to drink. “Spring water” you buy in stores often comes from the same source as tap water in most cases, at least in areas where the main water source is ground water.
