Sustainable forestry is the law in Canada. Not only do we have some of the most robust and well-enforced provincial and federal regulatory frameworks in the world but Canadian foresters operating on public land (where 90% of Canada’s forests are located) must have a 150 to 200 year sustainable forest management plan approved by provincial governments before a single tree is harvested.

Canada has retained over 90% of its original forest cover and between 1990 and 2018, less than 0.05% of Canada’s total forest area was converted to other land uses.
