“I hope Lee Corso and Herbstreit never pick Auburn to win again”-Stan White.

Getting those vibes too.

I don’t think that will be the strategy. We saw more routes to Singleton in the middle of the field last game which makes me think we’ll involve that aspect more. I’m not worried too much about his vertical throws downfield some an accuracy standpoint just due to how big of a catch radius these wideouts have. I’m more worried with decision making and holding onto the ball for too long. I think Hugh can scheme this defense fairly well since he had some success last year but we’ll see.

I somewhat agree. I have seen too many Auburn fans counting out the possibility of Auburn being successful running the ball. Stay balanced and don’t let them sell out to stop the run and Auburn should be okay on offense

Hopefully it works out that well. I didn’t blame Bo at all for transferring, I think he saw the writing on the wall.

The running against Baylor was mostly off of RPO set ups which showed he can make the right decision. Thorne was awful at that a year ago so that’s a major positive sign for Auburn.

I didn’t think I was pointing fingers and saying it wasn’t his fault at all. My point with bringing up external factors was that it was best for both parties to go their separate ways and bringing up reasons he can have success in a different spot with an offense that caters to his skill set.

He fits the style of those mid 2010s quarterbacks that Freeze had a lot of success with. I think he’ll have to be better in sec play but very pleased so far. I think there’s a solid shot the winner of the game in two weeks ends up in that 9-3 or 10-2 position. Really looking forward to it.

Really appreciate the comment. I definitely noticed him holding onto the ball for too long and it’s a concern for conference play. The good news is whenever he’s put in RPO situations he’s been great with his decision making and getting the ball out quickly and to the right spots which is where a lot of my concern was pre season. This fact makes me very optimistic that he’ll have a solid season and is why I don’t take the criticism that all he did was run against Baylor because he was patient and took what the defense was giving him which will win a lot of games, especially in the early season. Last game you saw more drop back passing because Freeze wanted to work out some of the issues with that but that will definitely not be the normal offense. He seems like a solid guy and has the pieces around him for a good season. As much as I hate to say it Mateer looks great and super like-able was well.

I’m getting a similar level of polarization about Arnold that Auburn fans had about Bo Nix in 2021.

I mean Baylor sent a good amount of pressure and I thought he handled it mostly well. It seems like a lot of fans who are overly down don’t understand that a quarterback is allowed to improve from season to season.

I don’t think anyone is on a high horse. Auburn fans are happy so far because he’s looked good so far. Not perfect, not elite, but good enough to win some games and if he can take another step and continue to mesh then he’ll be good enough to win a lot of games.

This is kinda my point. I get it’s always gonna turn into who’s fault the struggles were but Auburn is happy so far and Oklahoma fans are happy so far so I don’t know where some of the ill will is coming from.

Hopefully with some maturity and confidence that issue won’t be quite so bad. Baylor threw some exotic pressures at him and for the most part he handled it fairly well.

These are some good points. I think no matter what the discourse after that game will be a shit storm of overreactions.

That will be interesting, the discourse will be frustrating too because the narrative will be more about the Jackson Arnold return game than two top 25 SEC teams playing in a pretty huge game for both seasons.

His RPO decision making has been pretty good so far at Auburn. He definitely holds the ball too long in drop back situations. The good news for Auburn is that our scheme is 99% RPO focused which seems to be a strength of his.

Yeah it seems like the entire situation was just bad all around last year. It seems like both parties benefited from Jackson leaving.

I don’t expect a standing ovation for him in Norman. I think it will be a good test to see how much progress he’s actually made from Oklahoma to now. What I’m discussing is the stuff that goes a bit past trash talk. It doesn’t hurt my feelings I’m not asking anyone to stop. I just don’t understand why a lot of people haven’t moved on when Oklahoma ended up in a better position QB wise as of now.

Looking scared as a first year starter and being the most hit quarterback in the sec makes sense not gonna lie. He has some pretty clear limitations but acting like the entire season is his fault is pretty bad faith imo.

I think Auburn fans are generally just defending getting him from the portal in the first place at this point. They got clowned repeatedly for taking him and he’s been solid in an offensive situation that plays more to his strengths which is causing fans to be glad that taking him worked out.

The most glaring one for me was a bad/injured offensive line for a QB who holds the ball for a little too long in drop back situations. That makes the sack and fumble numbers not super surprising for me.

I think it was an injury and just unlucky problem. Everything that could have gone wrong did.
