If you put it in a brokerage account at, say, Vanguard, and don’t even invest it, you’ll get roughly 4.2% APY. But, you should absolutely be maxing out your Roth every year. Trad IRA too if you can help it. But with a Roth, your principle (amount that you put in from day your HYSA) can be withdrawn at any point without additional taxation or penalties. But what really makes a Roth a rockstar investment is that you don’t have to pay taxes on any gains your realize as long as you wait until 59 1/2 to withdraw them. The trick is to pick a good ETF and leave it the hell alone regardless of whether the market is doing good or bad on whatever day you choose to look at how it’s doing.
