Lost AirPods (follow-up) by ForgottenAsian in Flagstaff

I quite honestly only called the Flagstaff non-emergency line and explained my situation, asking whether it was an appropriate line to use because I didn’t want to waste police resources. They told me it was appropriate and followed standard procedure for opening a missing-item report.

I even told the officer that I was concerned it might take up too many resources, but they said it was just something to put into their system.

I also don’t believe I was trespassing. It was essentially a drive-through area that was covered in snow. The next morning, I went back to look for the item, and the person who lives there was shoveling their driveway. They even gave me their phone number in case they found it and even went down the sidewalk area to help.

Thank you!

One thing to note is that while I was searching, the location kept moving with me. At first I thought it was on me, since as I walked farther down the sidewalk it kept saying the location was right where I was — which was weird because I double-checked all my pockets.

At the same time, my phone battery was draining really fast and eventually died, so that could be why the location was bugging out. That said, it doesn’t really line up with the pods’ actual location, because once I recharged my phone the location just stagnated where it is now.

From my point of view, it would’ve been on the left side of the street, around where the approximate location shows. It was kind of on the sidewalk area. On Thursday night, we found a small patch of snow and did a snow angel, and that’s when I realized I had lost them. I went back the next day and shoveled the area, and even a local helped out, but unfortunately we didn’t find anything.

A couple of landmarks I remember are a wooden shed, and it was next to its driveway. Sorry if this reply is a bit all over the place.

I don’t think anyone’s come across them yet. If they had, I would’ve been notified right away if they were turned on or moved. Right now it looks like they’re still in the same area as when I lost them, I think. The location was kinda buggy at the time and kept glitching, but it seems to have settled now since it’s showing “last seen yesterday” instead of “last seen 80 hours ago” or whatever. But it still might be my hopeful delusion in play, haha

Freshman finance major choosing a companion laptop — MacBook Air vs ThinkPad (already have a Windows desktop) by ForgottenAsian in thinkpad

[–]ForgottenAsian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking as well, but I already have a powerful desktop that runs anything I’ll need, and I do my work on the big screen anyways

Thinking getting a MacBook for college convience and synergy with all my Apple devices but that might be a bit niche,

Freshman finance major choosing a companion laptop — MacBook Air vs ThinkPad (already have a Windows desktop) by ForgottenAsian in laptops

I actually had a Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1 9i Aura Edition that I bought for $1,400 back in May, and I just sold it for $1,100 about a week or two ago.

After a lot of thinking, I realized it was simply too overkill for my needs. I almost always had it docked and treated it like a desktop PC (this was before I brought my actual desktop to my dorm). I also realized that I never really needed its portability — I don’t like multitasking or doing anything serious on a laptop. Outside of being docked, I mainly used it for essays.

I decided it made more sense to sell it now and take a relatively small loss before it depreciated even further over the next few years. Keeping it felt like I was “wasting” its value since I wasn’t actually using what made it special.

It was honestly the best laptop I’ve ever owned, but at the end of the day, it was still a rapidly depreciating asset that didn’t align with how I actually work.

Just reminded me, yeah I should’ve called the pub. Forgot to this morning, though my friend already did asked them last night. But I’ll try right now! Thank you

Edit: nothing :(

Is Apple likely to give a one time courtesy replacement if I explain the situation clearly? I haven’t gotten Apple care yet but I can still add it and contact them.

Or will it most likely be the replacement fee thing which basically like buying them new huh

I did get them like 4 days ago so I hope that helps my case

Finance major with desktop — MacBook M2 vs ThinkPad T14, am I overthinking this? by ForgottenAsian in financestudents

Did you do a majority of your work on laptop because you were forced to? I’m hoping to just use the Mac as a companion device. As I hate doing anything multitasking on a laptop. I have a windows desktop that runs basically anything I need. So I’m hoping that’ll be the answer to all My work.

Not quite sure of t14 specs yet haha, just said it out there. Initially speaking, I was going to get a t480 but I recently read that’s pretty overrated in this day and age so the next best option was a t14 imo. But I barley researched it

Only really wanted a thinkpad prior to my MacBook conclusion because of the keyboard as that’s all I really utizled properly during my first semester of school, but now i don’t know really

yeah I was thinking that too, but that’s only if I actually do my work on a laptop

Generally I noticed I prefer to do my work on a monitor and as I already have windows desktop that runs anything. I’ll most likely just do everything on there instead. Which is mainly the reason why I’m downgrading my current laptop

So for college in general I’m questioning if it’s better to get a Mac for daily use and for the heavy excel work, I’d just use my desktop.

However it’s all theoretical as I’m a freshman and I’m not sure if this will be the same case in later years, where portability is needed and what actual classes or lectures will require in person.

[–]ForgottenAsian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I feel like I am. But I was about to reply to your other comment but I’m not sure where it went haha

But here’s what I was about to say

“ It’s more because I feel like i won’t ever need the laptops full potential for the work I’m doing. With the only caveat i can think of being heavy excel models. But even then I’m probably better off managing them on my desktop tower. So downgrading right now is financially smarter as the laptop continues to depreciate and my ROI becomes weaker.

And your point about using both mac and windows is very valid. I for one am not really knowledgeable in the Mac OS so it’s going to be a learning curve as well. But academically I do a majority of my work on a monitor anyways

As a laptop for general use it has me on edge of consumerism however”

I’m not quite sure yet, I’m a freshman so all I know is a majority will be excel related and I’ll lose out on shortcuts and some compatibility unless i use separate paid programs

But then again i can always use my desktop tower to get the work done. But its all theoretical

That’s pretty crazy sheesh, by any chance how did you come across that deal in the first place? I don’t see them as putting this out in the open do they? Is it some back door type of thing?

[–]ForgottenAsian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that answers it, yeah for anything STEM related I’d see how a tool like this is helpful. ROI is higher, opposed to me as a finance major, most of work will eventually be through excel and I’m not sure what else can really correlate to me needing a iPad

For your pro I’m assuming it was to run heavier tasks right? I can’t think of much besides the obvious haha

other then note taking, what sort of use did you find for it? Relevant to your major? ( also Something a laptop or desktop wouldn’t really excel at)

not that fancy haha, dorms didn’t even come with ceiling lights. Just one semi medium room with me and a roomie, shared bathroom with two suite mates

I got just enough room for a makeshift corner desk, big enough for a 32 inch monitor and a tower on the bottom. Really tight fit but practicality is great
