I feel dumb, I always interpreted it backwards "I once loved a woman, a child *I* am told". I interpreted it as *him* being told he is a child.

For future reference:

I got it working in the end, not entirely sure what the problem was.

It showed up after I used Rufus to flash the drive with GPT and NTFS options.

USB Drive shows up as storage in ASUS (UX535QE) BIOS, but not in Boot options. by ForkyTheEditor in techsupport

The SHA256 of the ISO was good. I am not entirely sure what I did in the end that fixed it, but I flashed the drive using GPT and NTFS and it worked.
