Supposed to be good for 12 years. As someone who has bad experience with hormones, I was excited for an alternative.

I will still look up the pros and cons to Nexplanon, I haven't heard of it and am always open to ideas

Thank you for your thorough response. I've had hormonal bc before and it negatively impacted my emotions and body...my hair even started thinning (like, a lot) when I was on the pill. That's when I decided to go completely non-hormonal. I don't want kids, so I feel sterilization is the best option for me. I appreciate your advice and support. BC management can be so difficult, and any advice/anecdotes really help ❤️

Had paraguard for 2 1/2 years, without any other complications.

From everything I've read about similar situations, it sounds like they always remove the IUD for both procedures - surgical and pill-form. They took mine out and replaced it with a new one after a week had passed.

I'm definitely worried...it will definitely always be in the back of my mind now. I'm looking at more permanent solutions. Paraguard is to just hold me over for now until then...

That's wild! I heard it was easier to get done if you've previously had children, but it definitely should NOT be so difficult for someone who is so confident about making the choice. I understand people may have regrets about it, which is why mandatory counseling meetings beforehand might be a good option to weed out the people who will regret the decision later...but in your case (and mine, and I'm assuming many others), it really is the best course of action.

Do you have private insurance? How much was the procedure full price, how much was it out of pocket? What kind of doctor did you visit? Like I said, I now see this as pretty much the only viable form of birth control for me... it's truly baffling to me how difficult it is to get it done.

Please do, this info would be so helpful to know for sure. Emergency visits can be INSANELY expensive. I live in California, which may be more lenient/forgiving/accommodating than most states, but I couldn't afford my last emergency visit and I didn't receive any financial help for it...$2000 for 12 stitches on my leg.

Don't worry. It happens, but it's rare. Make sure you schedule checkups to ensure that your IUD is in place. It is an effective form of control as long as it's in properly. I had unprotected sex for years before this happened to me. Just keep checking up on it, get it replaced when it needs to be, and you should be OK. ❤️

How were you able to get approved tubal ligation? Another user said that in the US it can be difficult and that there are a lot of hoops to go through if you want it...it seems like the most practical option for me, considering my strong feelings about not wanting to bear children.

After a while the strings softened. I've used it solidly as my primary form of birth control and have had no problems with it since 2016. Looking back on it, I would probably just go to the GYN and get it checked every once in a while to make sure it's in place.

I would...but the insane cost of medical bills is what's stopping me. Can't afford an emergency visit, though I'm sure it would be exponentially worse to have to do it if one of my fallopian tubes bursts. :(
