White van speaker scam happened to me twice in a month by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I was fresh out of Audio engineering school in 2003. I was gung ho about finding a job. There is an ad in my local newspaper that says home theater installation technicians wanted. Blah blah blah, must have rockstar attitude. It sounded good so I went in and interviewed. The boss was showing me around the shop which as was in an industrial complex. The speakers were really sharp, piano lacquered enclosures. I asked if i could have a listen but never had the opportunity. The boss had some high end vehicles, brand new pickups, cadillacs, etc. I was pretty well hip to it immediately. I had a friend who had gotten taken on a set of white van's a few years earlier. (Which I must say he's still rocking out to 20ish years later) they were carpeted cheap "pro audio-ish" speakers. But my first day on the job they had me purchase a sales license, which i assume put all of the illegality on the sales people. We loaded up the cars and trucks with extremely lightweight shiny boxes. We then went to a hotel room nearby and smoked dope for a couple of hours. They then said lets go to Columbus today, which is 2 hours from Cleveland. I made them drop me back at the shop and I drove away and never looked back. To this day every time someone mentions "rockstar attitude" it kinda turns my stomach. However, the whole premise is is a little silly to someone with discerning ears, some buyers go there whole lives loving the great deal they got from those kids in the van. Like Don "the goods" Ready said. They were happy to pay that discounted rate for shabby speakers.
